How To Make Steemit A Better Community! | Steemers Unite!

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

There are only two types of people in this world, some people are optimistic, some people are pessimistic. In Steemit, it's the same deal. Since I'm a pretty optimistic person, I want the community to stay mostly positive! Here's how :

1. Help Out People Who Need It (Your Vote)

One post that practically inspired me to blog about this was this.

Anyways, this reputation system is kind of broken at the moment (no hate dan). Like @smooth said in that post before, and I quote :

The reason being it points to a very serious problem with the rep system. Downvotes from high SP users, including casual ones over mildly inappropriate content or even misclicks or "drunk downvotes" can cause very serious damage to reputation.
Further I disagree with having initialized the rep scores based on old downvotes that were never intended to have that effect at the time they were made (since the effect did not exist).
Looking at alphabeta's past posts, he's someone who has been active in the community, involved with mining, but is not a star blogger or whale who can easily accumulate a lot of positive rep points allowing him to withstand even a single whale (or semi-whale, maybe even less) downvote. Having both the possibility and the reality of such severe and long-term damage to any user's Steem experience due to one single click from anyone is not a favorable path forward. Even that one single person happens to be the lead developer and founder. Perhaps especially then.

Downvotes from anyone can be heartbreaking for the user, especially if its from a whale. BAM! Then the reputation system kicks in, leaving you in the negative, and no one wants to be judged on the content they posted beforehand. Then, you call for help, however, you realize that no one cares, because they can't NOTICE you. New users especially have it hard, since they're new to this. It's not a path that anyone want. Period.

So I ask everyone of this community, help out. If you see a stray negative lying around in the posts section, don't ignore it. Even if the contents are terrible, they need your help. And they won't forget that one person who helped them out of the hole they never intentionally dug. Smooth is a valuable asset to the community, he's constantly helping people out of their situation that they don't deserve to be in. Salutations to you, Smooth! So please, if everyone could help a little bit and with the power of a button, it could change someone's life dramatically.

2. Don't Bash On Someone's Post

Do a 'Gentle(wo)men Dispute" Do not just comment 'I hate this post and this account, you should just delete it, loser.' Be a gentlemen and say, 'I disagree with what you said/posted and I think..." and so on and so forth. This type of behavior can hurt someone mentally through the internet too! We're humans on the other side of the screen. One trending post and known user was [masteryoda], his post, https://steemit.com/steemitabuse/@masteryoda/why-i-removed-all-my-posts , describes how he felt like he was abused on steemit because of...

... aggressive people started to show up out of nowhere trying to dictate what I can and cannot post, trying to bully me out of posting photography and videos I liked with all kind of claims, from copyright complete non sense claims, to plagiarism to content not being original and all kind of excuses. But the real reason is jealousy and envy, those people thought that they can also determine how much a post can get, they did not like it that I got votes and they did not.

Just because someone else's post is doing better than yours doesn't give you any right to spread your hate to theirs'. Instead, think positively and spread the love. As mentioned in [kaylinart]'s post : https://steemit.com/happiness/@kaylinart/how-to-be-positive-in-every-way

3. Think Positive, And You Can Achieve Anything!

There are many benefits from thinking positively, one such is increased lifespan (literally)! If you think positively, you can do basically anything. Here's how (from kaylinart) to be positive, in a short summary.

Have Lots of Positive Friends
Catch Yourself
When you find yourself thinking negatively, always correct yourself.
Adopt a Positive Attitude
Always go about your activities with an upbeat attitude.

Some reasons why you should have positive friends is that it will affect you. Having friends can influence your decisions a lot, and such, if you have positive friends, you will definitely have a positive outlook on what your doing no matter where you are.

Other reasons why you should doubt yourself if because, it affects what you do. For example, lets say you're writing a blog for Steemit, and it's really good. But you don't what to finish it or post it because you fear that there will be haters waiting to flag you post. I will say that there are definitely some people that don't like what you post, but who cares? They shouldn't affect you, you don't even know who they are! So finish that blog and POST IT! High risk, high rewards. So, you know what to do, think positive, and the community can be a happier place.

4. Don't Spam

It's pretty simple, don't spam, the more you spam, the more hate it generates. Then, it can be ignored by the flagging bots like [cheetah] or the reputation system. Spam makes your account look bad if you're trying to promote one of your posts. It's the same deal with Youtube comments. Don't spam, just create better content for your readers!

Just to wrap this up, spread the positivity and it there will be great rewards waiting for you!
