New on Steemit? The Very Basic Resources you need to get started. PART 1 🤓  💻 📈

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Hi friends who recently joined

I've been raving about steemit to you all and I want to make it as easy as possible to set up your account, so you can start posting great content. There's a lot to take in and thanks to steemit there's a lot of resources to learn from. I linked everything here in one document so it's easier for you, than having to find out everything separately, like I did! This is really the basics but trust me, I had to figure all this out from scratch and it's a bit of a headache. I haven't explained everything fully as I wanted to make this a quick resource but i've linked other useful posts that go into the details in the green text, so make sure you look at it, to understand everything properly.

Start your profile

First thing is to get your profile picture and banner picture online so you are visible and recognisable.
Go the icon just before the 3 dashes in top right of steemit page (sometimes I could not see the icon but just clicking around this area will give you a drop down menu.
click settings fill in your profile and add your images.
You will have to use this website to upload your images and copy the Direct Link into your profile, it's the only one that seemed to work.

Your place on steemit and what that means

Now your here to earn money, you just joined the deep sea of the steemit platform and won't have a lot of power here yet (unless you power up - you need steem or trade bitcoins to power up) so to earn money you'll first need to post great content, understand your place in the steemit sea and why posting is the best way to get started. It's really important to make an introduction post early on, this is a way the steemit community gets to know who you are. Definitely explore theintroduceyurself tag to get an idea how others are doing it. Here are some tips on how to do one effectively.

Once you have posted, it is available for anyone to see, so it doesn't matter how many followers you have, its a good idea to tag properly, even though I have seen posts with like 10 tags, it seem's like us newbies can only use 5 tags so choose wisely. It's not always about choosing the main ones, I think a mixture between some niche tags and larger ones works well. Make sure if you post a video on dtube, you absolutely use the dtube tag.

Earning Steem Dollars

When you have been upvoted and your post has earned money, you will need to wait 7 days from the day of posting to receive a pay out. You may find that the value of your post has gone down, don't worry this is normal. Before you start cashing your earnings, make sure you inform yourself about what steem, steem power and steem dollars is. We all need to pay the bills, so learn how you can use those hard earned steem dollars for spending, and to spend those coins your going to need a bitcoin debit card.

Tips for posting great content

Tips for posting great content is to use images and or dtube video and make sure that you have familiarised yourself with markdown, you'll have to manually format your text, for example here are some basics, if you want to make words, bold italic or

To make greyed out boxes, lists or other types of formatting, check for more info here and here.

How to comment, upvote, resteem and curate

If you don't have content to post yet, start curating and commenting, it's good practice to do so even when you are posting, because you can earn steem dollars. You can curate by up voting posts you like (the up arrow next to the money) and resteeming them (the bent arrow to the right next to comment symbol).
It's up to you who and what you upvote but I think it's good to do a mixture of new people and less popular posts and more popular, and to comment so the author notices you and you can make new steemit friends. Please be aware by voting at different times there are different types of payout and that as a newbie you won't have much voting power. Also if you you upvote, comment and follow people your voting power drops and your bandwidth can run out entirely. When this happens you will have to wait until it powers up, there is more info about this here.

Always keep checking your power buy using this link http://stemmd.com/@(yourname) or http://steem.rocks/(yourname)/bandwidth.

The first few days when I started on steemit, I had no idea how to find out who commented on my posts unless I clicked on the post itself. There are no notifications like other social medias but you can easily check by going to your icon and in the drop down menu you will see comment and replies. It's so obvious to me now but honestly I did not see at all!

When you first starting out its good to check the support out there for example minnow support you can also join the discord minnow support forum and get free upvotes for your posts here.

Don't forget to check your achievements to keep you motivated you can do that here...

AND NEVER FORGET YOUR PASSWORD (THERE IS NO ACCOUNT RECOVERY) BACK IT UP AND KEEP IT SAFE FROM HACKERS

I hope this gets you started, i'll be creating another resource pack on everything to do with your account, bots, steem trails and vote selling.

If it helped you, please vote it up and resteem it so you have it in your blog available as a resource, if there any suggestions, comments or something I missed, let me know.

Thanks Earthlings.
