What is a Crypto Wallet?

in #steemit3 years ago

A crypto wallet is a device or program that allows you to receive, send, store cryptocurrencies, and
record transactions. Each cryptocurrency can only be sent to a wallet that matches it, otherwise, the
funds could be lost. We can separate all wallets into two distinct categories: hot and cold ones. The
main difference between them is that a hot wallet is directly connected to the Internet. This allows
the cold wallet to offer maximum digital security. However, you must take precautions to avoid
losing or damaging your physical wallet.
The hot wallet category includes different types:
-Web wallets (Binance,Coinbase..)
-Mobile wallets (Metamask..)
-Desktop wallets (Bitcoin wallet..)
And the cold wallet types :
-Paper wallets
-Hardware wallets (Ledger, Trezor..)
In short, desktop and mobile wallets make you install an application that has the advantage of giving
you ownership of your key. Web wallets allow you to access from any device without installing
anything but the website owns your keys. Paper wallets are physical documents that contain the
information to access your currencies. Hardware wallets offer greater security with a key that
belongs to you on a physical wallet. Each has its own advantages, according to your use. The security
of your wallet is primordial, and you can enhance it with a complex password, an offline device, or
the 2FA.
