OpenLedger has 800k+ STEEM and SBD blocked permanently ?

in #steemit5 years ago

@abit did a short notice post on this today yet we decided i will share longer story on how ive found this, what we tried etc.

Around 2 or 3 days ago I've decided to get out of some exchanges and was checking my balances. I found that i have loads of open orders on OpenLedger (Bitshares based exchange) so started cancelling them. Trought years it was really loads of forgotten ones.

And i saw that some HUGE tokens i have are disabled there from deposit and withdrawals - NEO, STEEM, SBD, DGD. Plenty other smaller ones also but i was aware of those since long time so wont bother to list them all.

I thought, alright ill trade them off.. oops - markets freeze everywhere. Tried many gateways - no go. Went to Bitshares chan to talk to some admins and mods.

Ive pmed Ronny the CEO, he told me to contact support. Same moment i went to @abit and told him of the problems as maybe he knew a workaround. Since then we started talking to OL and others checking if we can fix this, also @oflyhigh joined to help with the case.

At 30.09.2019 i got reply from support

STEEM/SBD gateway was disabled on our trading platform following the announcement made on August 06, 2019. Withdrawals of this coin are no longer available and all remaining STEEM/SBD balances of OpenLedger DEX users have been archived.

We dump underperforming coins to better serve our customers and ensure the fastest possible speed of transactions. We fully stop supporting such coins in the pre-announced time.
We understand your discontent, but we cannot assist you with this issue. We will be happy to assist you with any other issues you may have.

So how much STEEM is gone? Looks like almost 900k

How much SBD? Almost 178k

EOS right now is closed but seems trading is open at least, so i dont know.

If you had any STEEM/SBD on OL or other coins i suggest to check - possibly you will find many were delisted and you cant get them out.

I hope this will be solved its big numbers really. I have there some other coins that were delisted in not that small numbers at all too but i would never expect STEEM and SBD to be killed so i didn't bother to verify that all time. I thought Graphene based tokens are safe.

If you can come to decentralized conference

You will be able to speak with Ronny in person. He is sponsored from bitshares to speak at the decentralized 2019 event.

This is a great idea and i think they must at least give a certain period to get the funds out.

I only have problem with the short period notice given for the delisting of STEEM/SBD. Aug 6-19. That's like just 2weeks. And this was done "codedly" (silently). No large publicity about it. Many people with good amount of STEEM & SBD didn't know what's up. You can see it from the amounts of STEEM and SBD locked 🔐 up there😐😐😐.

I smell foul play there.

indeed man, indeed.

OMG!!! 😨

These guys have skeletons in their cupboards!!!

We have a chance of getting money back

As we have stated earlier in the ticket, the shutdown of STEEM and SBD coins gateways was officially scheduled for August. We announced this action through all our official channels in Telegram, blog, Discord channel, on Twitter and Reddit. Coin support shutdowns are a common practice both on centralized and decentralized platforms. In our official announcement we have indicated the process timing specifically - from 6.08.2019 till 19.09.2019. During that period each user was able to withdraw their coins automatically.

Your ticket was created on 29 September, 2019, which is 41 days after the gateway support official shutdown date.
As it was stated in the announcement, the specified gateways and gateways support were shut down on 19 August.

Since we do not keep user contact information such as email, we cannot deliver announcements to each user directly via their personal email.

At the moment we are considering the possibility of fulfilling your request about coins withdrawal. However it has not been decided yet in what form it will be arranged.
It takes time to come to a decision, and we will do our best to make it in the nearest time possible. During the next week we will contact you additionally.

Oh how nice they did it again. I lost 20 PPY when they did that. The messed up part is they don't offer people the tokens back, they quietly say they are going to stop the pair then get to keep the funds and sell them. It really is just a "nice" way of exit scamming people.

Dear users of OpenLedger.io platform, traders and crypto-enthusiasts,

In response to requests regarding STEEM and SBD coins delisting and their gateways closure that took place in August 2019, we would like to inform you about the following.

The main function of our trade platform is to provide our customers with high-class service of assets exchange options. As in any other commercial organization, one of the business goals of OpenLedger.io is receipt of profit. Based on the results of the technical and economic audit of gateways performance in the present year, the platform management have decided to shut down six gateways and to stop support of several assets in August 2019. STEEM and SBD were included into the list of gateways and assets planned for disabling.

The announcement about the shutdown of support of these assets was published 6 August, 2019. To inform as many people as possible and to give our customers sufficient time for the specified assets withdrawal, the announcement was published on all our official channels of communication. Our official channels of communication include Telegram, Twitter, Discord, News block on the trade platform OpenLedger.io, Reddit and our news Blog. Asset users were granted 14 days to withdraw the specified assets.

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the procedure of gateways closure and assets support disabling was carried out in full compliance with applicable legislation and Terms of Service, namely paragraph 6 of Terms of Service by OpenLedger:

"OpenLedger may at any time, with or without prior notice to users, remove any Asset from display or accessibility through its Platform for any business or regulatory reason that it may deem appropriate."

Actions, such as gateway shutdown or asset support disabling, are commonly used and are often practiced by decentralized and centralized trading platforms. After full stop of a gateway support, trading platforms do not allow withdrawal of removed coins if such a request is made outside of the time officially given for withdrawal.

Being a customer-centered company, OpenLedger puts its clients interests first, solving all requests individually with each customer contacting Customer Service, and does its best to act in full respect of customer needs and values.

Best regards,
OpenLedger Team

Not surprised given I know that CEO - shame you can not so much about it

I m not surprised too. Openledger has history of ridding people of their coins subtely.

During the EOS mainchain launch, OL said it was okay to keep our EOS with them if we weren't sure of how to create the EOS genesis wallet on our own. I decided to leave my EOS on openledger.

After the EOS mainchain went live, some tokens (A lot of tokens) were distributed as incentives to EOS token holders, and OL kept it all to themself. At the time, a lot of users complained because they didn't include this when they announced it was okay to leave our EOS with them, just like they've now decided to delist and disable Steem and sbd within such a short time frame without letting the entire Steem community know. Won't be surprised to find that they'd transfer and sell them on the open market someday. (edit: oh, they already did that).

PS: I had some EOS on Binance too because they supported the mainnet swap, and they shared the dividends with users who held EOS.
OL is shitty, and scammy. I wouldn't advise anyone to trust that rogue company. Whatever it is.

How many did you lose? 😲

Thanks for bringing this to light. Fuck you, Open Ledger.

So what happen to all that STEEM, is this the account that was holding it? https://steemitwallet.com/@openledger-dex/transfers
