In 1926 he was up for a Nobel Prize with some other scientist for their theory on tumor cells and oxygen deficiency; but the Nobel Prize went to the other guy for the similar research.
He later learned that this was not a factor.
Cancer has been found in alkaline and acidic systems, though it grows and spreads faster in acidic systems.
