A Head Start Guide For New Members

This post is only for those who are new in the community.
First of all, I would like to welcome all of you who just joined in this amazing and life changing platform and I hope this little guide will help you in getting along with the community.
There are four major things that we all can do and we must do in the platform and those are:
- POSTING
- VOTING
- COMMENTING
- RESTEEMING
These are the main activities of the platform and it is very important to get involved and be part of it because if not, then our presence in the community is useless. We will be missing the benefits that this amazing platform is offering.
What should I post?
This question comes in almost all new users (aside from those who were already writer before they join steemit). Some people ask what should I post to steemit? Posts come in several forms, and if you are not a writer, still you can submit a post.
Here's the common posts that you can submit in the community:
- Article
- Blog
- Photo
- Video
- Recipe
- News
- Arts
- Crafts
Its hard to believe if you will say that you know nothing about these things. You don't need to be a good writer because here, learning comes in handy. Just make sure that your post is not copy pasted. Also, if you are going to use someone's picture, don't forget to mention the source.
How to vote?
I would not say that you don't know how to vote but lets just you really don't know. The upvote icon is found below every post, the one with an "up" arrow. Every steemians are given the rights to upvote for any contents that they like and that's the reason why we follow authors, this vote is dependent on our Steem Power. The bigger your Steem Power, the bigger is the value of your vote. We need to exercise our rights to vote even if our Steem Power is very low because when we vote, we also earn a piece of it.
Yes, every vote has an equivalent earning called "curation earnings" and also dependent on our stake or the Steem Power.
If you don't have enough time to watch over the post of the authors you like, you can choose to automate voting.
Steemvoter.com
This is a free service https://steemvoter.com and all you need to do is to signup and set the rules for your account. Setting the rules is easy as selling hotcakes. See the picture below, you just need to specify the name of the author you wanted to vote, set the percentage of your vote that you wanted to cast and lastly, set the time delay, I suggest put it at 30 minutes to avoid penalty.
Every time the chosen authors will post a new content, your rules will fire base on settings, automatically. You don't have to worry about missing somebody's post because you have already set the autovote.
Why need to comment?
Commenting is very important especially for us who are still building our network. Through commenting other steemians will notice you and possibly could build good relationship with each other. This relationship will help us climb the ladder. Communication is the key to build connections not unless you wanted to stay alone.
Resteeming
If twitter has retweet and facebook has share, Steemit also has resteeming. If you like somebody's post, aside from voting, you can also resteem their post. The advantage of resteeming is that if you voted first on the post and after you resteemed it, it goes viral or gain good rewards, you will have a share of the pie.
As already mentioned this post will be short and simple. Hope this can help new members in making their way around the community.
Kindly resteem so that other new members can also read this post. Thank you.

Thank you so much for posting this handy guide for new Steemians.
It has been a slow learning process for me, and I still have much to learn.
Just getting the basics right first, will be a giant step in the right direction.
