Is Steemit really a REBEL in the blockchain field ? Anti dote to centralized platforms?

Isn't it possible to buy more steem power and establish a huge following through upvoting and creating more stream of followers? How will it be different from other centralized social media platforms that case?

Will it truly live upto its name as an unregulated, decentralized and distributed platform?
