Poloniex Situation Update

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

DEPOSITS

Sent 1 SBD to my account , nothing 10 hours later, can't even see "unconfirmed transaction" in the deposits history.

I highly recommend anyone trying to use Poloniex during this time to test it with a small amount and only go ahead with the real transaction if the small amount you sent is successfully received.

WITHDRAWALS

Tried to withdraw 0.02 steem to my steem wallet, almost an hour later (at the time of writing this, will edit if any updates happen) the status is still "Pending"

So, it looks like even though they've re-enabled transactions for steem and SBD, they're still facing issues.

Until things get resolved, avoid using this exchange for either deposits or withdrawals.

However, I will not be depositing in the future as well, as poloniex have time and again "disabled transactions" at crucial times and I no longer see them as 'reliable'.

I'd withdraw when this issue gets resolved but will not be depositing steem or SBD into the exchange any time soon.

Bittrex is a good alternative, but after the recent theft that happened to @cryptoiskey which was livestreamed, I'm not so keen on bittrex either, so if you know of a decent alternative to these two, please leave a comment ! I'll be glad to take a look, because frankly, poloniex is just getting frustrating right now, it's been almost (or more than?) 10 days since they were able to properly transact steem or SBD.

Cheers

edit : Looks like they've reverted the status of steem and SBD deposits/withdrawals to "temporarily disabled"

Heya

Please don't be put off by what happened to me. If you take simple precautions for example "DONT" enable the withdraw function for the API, and also whitelist your IP address, and let's not forget using API keys in video tutorials, then you will be as safe as any other exchange. I think what is important is to never keep large amounts on an exchange.

For me it was the mistake of enabling the withdraw function in the API that caused the damage.

Thanks for the heads up, i haven't got much right now so I'm able to manage in exchanges, however when i do make bigger investments, I'll need to move to offline wallets ..

Were you using bot trading?

I saw that In poloniex, to withdraw, you need email confirmation

No i was trading manually through Coinigy mostly. I have had an account with Poloniex from when i first started Steemit and that was what i used it for was selling steem and SBD. But the first ICO (waves) I did i needed to use Bittrex and thats what set me on that path with Bittrex. After what happened i decided to re visit my Poloniex but found the site is extremely slow which is very annoying. But i think if you have smaller amounts on each exchange you also reduce the risk of losing alot in one hit. But like i said if you take precautions i think most exchanges will be much the same.

Similar issues over here :(

6 days and waiting plus the one from today. I guess it's waiting game again for us.

Damn! so bad because they have better prices at selling than Bittrex.

This thing sucks. I regularly use poloniex for trading, but now these stuffs are meking me fear about its future. :(

Poloniex is making me fear everytime they do thing like these, first they dont give you any support and last thing that could happen that they can run away omg
