My First Month on Steemit in Review
I didn’t really know what to expect when I got started on Steemit last month, but I’m so happy with how things have turned out. Starting on January 3rd I posted every weekday through the end of the month. I wasn’t expecting to publish this often honestly, but it has become kind of addicting. 🙂
I started a blog a few years ago to talk about learning Japanese, but it ended up fizzling out — my motivation slowly went away as I stopped having ideas for posts. I’m finding that the monetary reward on Steemit, and the excitement of being a part of something early on, has made me want to do what’s necessary to come up with new ideas. I’m hoping I’ll be able to keep this posting schedule going throughout February!
Here are some general stats from my first month: I’m up to 150 followers and 138 posts. I ended up publishing about 21,000 words over the course of January, or about 1,000 words per post, and the total of the post values was $1,160.69, which averages out to $55.27 per post.
My Posts

Post Thumbnails
One thing that really surprised me was how much fun I had making the post thumbnails. They’re still really simple of course — generally just white text on a colorful background — but it has been fun learning the program Sketch and using it to create an image each day. I’m hoping I can slowly increase the complexity, but right now I’m still happy just using smileys and emojis to keep things interesting. 🙃 Here are my favorites from January:
My Start on Steemit
My brother showed me Steemit early in 2017, so I had been keeping an eye on it, but it wasn’t until the crypto market exploded in December that I decided it was time to start posting. When I first heard about Steemit I knew close to nothing about cryptocurrencies. It seemed pretty interesting so I started reading some books and articles to get a better sense for what it was all about, and then in October 2017 I created my Steemit account just to test it out and read some posts. In December I found out that I’d be able to take part in the current cohort for @sndbox so I started writing posts, including the 5 post series on learning Japanese, before I posted anything to my account.
February Goals
This month I’d like to continue posting five times a week, and I’m hoping I can add some videos to this routine as well. I’ll try to post on Steemit every morning Monday through Friday, and then scatter a couple videos over the week, probably published in the evening. I created and edited my first video on my phone and it’s very simple, but it’s still fun having another outlet to create some content. Overall I’m just really excited with how this has been going! I’m up to 214 SP, and I’m hoping I can reach 500 by the end of the month.
Thank you so much to everyone who has been reading, upvoting, and commenting on my posts. Every upvote and comment is still really exciting to get — I genuinely appreciate it! I’m looking forward to reading some more great content, and chatting with more nice people in February. Thanks so much for reading and here’s to another great month! 🎉
