Trying To Stop The Voices In My HeadsteemCreated with Sketch.

OMG.  My brain is TIRED.  I don't know if other Minnows feel this way, but . . .

I'm on Information Overload.

I started reading about SteemIt a week or so before I signed up.  Now that I'm actually participating, I'm discovering even MORE that I don't know. Voices in my head are asking:

  • What the hell is Markdown?
  • Right now, do I want Steem Power? Or Steem Dollars?
  • When is a good time to Upvote?
  • So. Many. Questions.

There's some pressure to figure stuff out right away because posts have a shelf-life of 6 or 7 days before they become unable to earn rewards. Sometimes EARLIER since they get buried under other content that's vying for attention.

Is It Even Worth It?

Self-doubt creeps into my brain, whispering that the article I'm working on is boring, or lacks focus.  Learning is a process - and I will certainly learn the recipe for failing to grab attention and/or providing value to readers.  (not sure why I'm so hard on myself)

Many SteemIt Whales have written "don't stress", "have fun", "connect with others".  And I am.  I'm absolutely having fun 'meeting' others and I enjoy learning.  Honest.   I think it's just that this first week feels, crazy.  Do you remember your first week on SteemIt? (maybe you're in it??)

I Am Not Alone

From what I've experienced, SteemIt is a supportive community.  Trying to help one another.  Not compete with each other.  We all succeed if SteemIt grows.  There are so many helpful tools.  Lots of articles to help the newbies, like these new ones from @tacia and @luzcypher.  New friends have even offered assistance if I get stuck (thank you, @donnaincancun, @mithrilweed, and @merej99).

I had planned to post an article on something completely different today, but these initial reactions (voices) kept flooding my mind.  The logic side of my brain says that questions and doubt will subside.  . . . It'll just take a while.  And that's ok.

Sort:

@jannell I get it, I been here about 5 weeks and my head is flooded with info.

@travissanders the whole crypto space is an experiment but no doubt STEEMIT is on the bleeding edge of this experiment.

As for my account I purchased STEEM to power up my account, increase earnings, speculate on price hitting $10 this year and have more fun tipping others. I do not plan on powering down for 6-12 months.

When SBD were above $1 I would set my blog payments to be 50/50. STEEMIT values SBD at $1 but exchanges could be buying them for more. If they pay more for my SBD then I can trade them for the higher price and turn around and buy more Steem to convert to Steem power. This strategy was working up until a few days ago but recently the price of the SBD has dropped to .98 cents.

Love that you are looking for the strategy in your investment here. I've only scratched the surface of that. Will study more in the coming weeks.

Steem Power helps you get more dollars so I'd get power :D
Nows the time to invest though as investing with Steem lets your money gain value as Steemit itself gains value

Thank you for the tip! I ultimately decided that Steem Power was the way to go. BUT, good thought on investing in Steem as well. That's my study material for next week! Hahahaha.

I am with you, i am also confusing if what to choose, planing to powering down or continue with my power up for steem power. I still not get it....thanks for sharing this.

Thank you for your comment. One of the things I've found helpful was to find current posts from people who have been in SteemIt for awhile and simply add a comment to that post asking for clarification. I think it'll just take time. Maybe my trying to go too fast is the problem?

I haven't even bothered with the currency side of the site, yet. Just trying to read interesting posts and comment on them. Saves me from the headaches. The other stuff will come, in time.

I agree, it will all make sense in time. I haven't bothered with the currency side of stuff, yet. But plan to continue reading about it (even after I figure it out!).

I have so many questions I'm losing track. I hope most of my concerns are being worked on by the developers. Rather than being a social media platform, I feel like I'm on a social media experiment, haha. Hope we find our way. Great post!

Thanks, Travis! Yes, SteemIt seems like a combo of merging a blog with Facebook and an exchange. Lots of moving parts. Yeah, I think we'll be 'in the know' soon.

I definitely had information overload when I first started, and I don't think I even knew about markdown for the first few weeks haha! The fact that you know how to do italics, bullets and large letters? You are waayyy ahead of where I was at that point! And actually it was an article by merej99 that helped tremendously with that.
I've been here for nearly eight months and it was life changing for me, the creative outlet that I needed. But it has been a rollercoaster, each time they make changes it takes a period of adjustment and it seems like once I get used to the new changes another hardfork comes along to turn everything on its head again LOL. But I love it here, and I know I'll be in this amusement park as long as it stays open :)

Hahaha. I like the rollercoaster/amusement park analogy. Thank you for the reassurance (and your comment)

Really good post @jannell! I have been here about three months now and am still struggling to work things out but having fun with it at the same time.

Looking forward to seeing more from you in future! :)

Thanks! There are things that are starting to make sense. I'm working on a few more posts now . . hope to post at least one today
