Is meat consumption optimal for human health?
‘Could’ makes it sounds like a hypothetical, but people have already done this. Most notably the Inuits!
Not much agriculture in the snowy wastes I’m afraid!
Of course, if you wanted to attempt this yourself you would have to be ready to eat the offal (the organs of the animal) as well as the meats we traditionally eat in the west. If you didn’t and just ate the muscle then you would be missing out on vitamin C and such.
Eating a pure meat diet also changes your dietary requirements in general. The body is a complex system and we eat some things because they aid in the digestion of other things. As a result, you can have violent reactions to breaking out of the diet once your body has gotten used to it. Though this is the same with a lot of elimination diets. If you’ve ever gone for a can of coke and a packet of crisps while breaking a keto diet you know exactly what I mean.
The pure meat diet can be really beneficial to people who are having poor reactions to the secondary metabolites in plants. Eliminating everything and then slowly adding the vegetables back into the diet is a great way to find out what particular thing is causing you to have heartburn or other such discomforts.
