Audree Kopp, a woman from Kentucky has experienced a strange situation. She underwent an emergency surgery due to a serious infection. She got an infection from a glittery hair tie around her wrist. The bacteria from the glittery band entered her body through a small cut on the skin.

Over time, a red bump appeared on her wrist, which started to grow continually. Besides the prescribed antibiotic, the situation became even worse. The glittery hair tie she had on her wrist carried bacteria, which infected her arm through her pores and hair follicles.

Fortunately, this terrible situation was solved with surgery. Otherwise, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream and lead to a coma.

Prevention

The risk of infection is always high when you have an open wound. You shouldn’t wear a hair tie on your wrist if you’re taking care of a sick person or doing dirty work. Moreover, you should regularly and properly wash your hands to prevent infections and bacteria. However, if you experience a red, swollen, painful bump in an area where you had a hair tie, you should seek an immediate medical attention for that.

When to Wash Your Hands

Make sure you wash your hands as frequently as possible. This will prevent bacteria and viruses from spreading. Additionally, always wash your hands when in contact with contact lenses, preparing food or eating, treating sick people, touching animals, using the restroom, coughing etc.

Proper Way to Wash Your Hands

In order to wash your hand properly, follow these steps:

Use warm water to wet your hand and apply some soap.

Then, rub your hands, palm to palm, in a circular movement.

Next, put your right palm over your left dorsum, interlace your fingers, and rub well.

Switch hands and repeat the steps.

Then, wash your hands with running water.

Use a towel to dry your hands.

Finish by turning off the faucet using the towel.
