What is the most unforgettable food that you have eaten in a foreign country?

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemians

It is very difficult to determine which country has the most delicious food. Every country has a couple of dish that taste fantastic. Whether we travel to foreign countries or visit different international restaurants in our countries, it remains always a unique experience. I am a very open minded person, mostly when it comes to food. I love to try anything anywhere, but dont get me wrong! No fried spiders or worms. I respect insects and try to keep distance :)

What made some food unforgettable were the ingredients, the freshness and the preparation. Sometimes the dish was most memorable because it was the first time I had it.

The Chinese Dumplings

I tried them in different Asian restaurants and they remain the best. When I enter a Chinese restaurant, thats the first things I start looking for. I can eat many of them and remain unsatisfied :P

The French Croissant

They are a part of our culture and I love them. I prefer hot butter croissant or almond croissant with a nice Americano in the morning. I have to eat it at least once in the week and when I travel to a place where I dont find my croissant, I miss it! When I was in Turkey they told me that croissant is originally Turkish, that the French people learned from them. Seriously both versions are nice :)

The Japanese Sushi

I tried Sushi the first time in Thailand and I had a terrible experience. Not that the food was bad! No it was delicious, but I messed up lol It was my first time and didnt know what wasabi was. I thought something similar to mayonnaise and put a bit of it into my mouth. I cant describe my experience, but I felt like a dragon, sitting there in tears :)

The German Spätzle

As a kid I ate a lot of Spätzle with lentils or mushroom sauce and french fries. I loved it and it is the first meal I will order when I visit Germany again. It is delicious and brings my childhood memories back to life :)

The Afghani Pulao

I had a good friend from Afghanistan who invited me many times to her house, where I discovered this nice dish. She used to serve it with lamb curry and yogurt. I was addicted to this rice and tried many times to make it, but didnt get it the right way. Not that I gave up! Just busy these days, but will try again in the future :)

The Indian Chola Puri

I had this dish the first time in India and was addicted to it as well. Whenever I went out, I thought only about chola puri :) I know that many Indian dishes are delicious like the mutton Biryani and the way they make the vegetables, but that was my choice. In my country we eat sweets in the morning and as snacks in the afternoon, while in India things were different. So I was having it sometimes for breakfast or dinner.

The Tunisian Couscous

It was the worst day for me as a teenager, to come back home and find couscous on the table. I wanted to have fast food outside, but didnt like what my mother used to cook. Her food was a bit spicy and we had to argue every time. But now things have changed and it became one of my favorite dishes :)

The Italian Tiramisu

If you are a coffee addict, you will know exactly what I am talking about. Even when I wasnt drinking coffee, I loved to have Tiramisu for the sake or the coffee flavor. It is one of the best dessert I had in all my life :)

The German Berliner

When I was a teenager I used to eat six of them for breakfast with hot cacao. I know it is too much, but I wasnt getting fat :) Seriously the German Berliner with Raspberry Jam is just yummy and unbeatable!

I still have a big list, but I think I spoke enough about my favorite dishes and now it is your turn. What is your unforgettable food :)

Yes Balik Ekmek. I like it too :)

Some great dishes shared here @hanen but wow 6 German Berliners! seriously haha think max I ate in one go was 3.

I started with 3 and ended up with 6 hhh I was 14 at that time and we used to get 6 Berliners in a pack. So what people eat in two or three days, I ate in one day :)

I haven't tried many of these dishes but they all look yummy!

I always eat at home so they only time I get to try different food is when I travel, so far Thai is my favorite. :)

I would love if you try Serbian food someday, just to know what you think and would you like it, haha! :D

I love Thai food too, mostly the green curry and the sea food :) Serbia is already on my list. I will visit next year and I am sure that I will have a nice time and great food. And meet you there :)
