Who Unfollowed the most on Steemit? - 27th June 2017 Stats

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

As most of my "Followers" know, I recently came across some users who are simply trying to gain followers using shady practices on Steemit. Please read this post to understand why I am generating this report.

Steemit is very different from the typical Social Networks and we all know it. With this report, I am not trying to point any fingers and you may have legitimate reasons to unfollow people in thousands! I am just trying to bring more transparency in the platform. The aim is to make aware and discourage people from using shady practices which otherwise work perfectly on other closed Social Platforms!

This is a common marketing for social media. I know tons of people that do the same thing on most social media platforms such as Instagram and have followings in some cases as high as the millions. It makes it easier toward getting either fame through riches or notoriety. As @hopefulvagabond mentioned these people definitely have a lot of time on their hands or potentially use VAs to do the work.

Yea it is a sad reality and is discouraging for genuine users who play by the rules. The good part of blockchain is that nothing is hidden and People can make informed decisions.

I completely agree. Like yourself most of them are annoying as hell and are probably the same people that will DM everyone on steemit chat. Atop of sending their DM they will be sending a link to a completely plagiarized article...lol. Steem on as I wouldn't sweat it there re so many people you'd rupture a blood vessel in the process.

Who has the time to follow and then unfollow 5869 accounts?? He unfollowed me as well, so don't feel bad! Its not personal!

haha.. now you know. People can go to any lengths!

I used to work doing social media management for a nightclub and was encouraged to do mass following for a return on followers to just unfollow them... I can't imagine doing that on here, this is an actual community I have realised with different practices... but 5,869!!!! :O - thanks for sharing this info!

Thanks a lot @hopefulvagabond. It's very interesting to see these statistics.
I love Data!! :)

It is indeed! So how frequent will you be doing these types of post? Whereabouts in London are you based by the way? :)

I am thinking of doing these daily for the time being.am also thinking of expanding it to other reports. It will depend on the kind of response I get :) ..I am in Canary wharf

@gyanibilli nice stats, that is a really sneaky tactic. No wonder he is called riskybiscuit.

Hehe..There is also one named steemhelper..Not sure what kind of help is he giving by un following :)

i like that you like stats! Interesting post again! Thank you for sharing! But i really don't understand why they are doing what they are doing, unless it's a working strategy to gain more upvotes?

Thanks a lot @thisjourney. I do find statistics fascinating. They provide a lot of insight. The strategy is very simple. These people follow a lot of users blindly in hope that some will follow them back. Some people do follow them back and after a while they simply unfollow all the people whom they had earlier followed. Now when you look at their profile..You will see a lot of people following them but only a few whom they are following. To a new user visiting their profile it would seem that the user is very popular on the platform..

ahhh i see! Thank you so much for explaining this patiently... It will affect those new users who don't know who to follow, or those who follow blindly because "others are doing so". :D

Nice Finding ... :)
