There kind of are ads on Steemit with all the paid votes floating around. Just look at the crap that @jerrybanfield pumps out. All of his crappy posts are blatant advertising.

I wouldn't support advertising on this platform. That's what sets it apart from every other platform out there. It quite simply doesn't belong.
