Emerging from behind the screen...
Tonight's going to be interesting, a journey into the unknown, or at least, the not-so-known. I am attending my first of the 'regular' steemit meet-ups as a proud member of @mallsballers in Adelaide. I say first however in actuality it's my second although the first meet-up I attended was not defined as a regular meet-up: It was the first one. So, this one is taking place at a pub called The Jade located on Flinders Street in the Adelaide CBD. I've not been there before however I hear it's a good spot. I say it'll be interesting as I have missed the first couple of regular catch-ups and the way I understand it there's a few additional members, or attendees, who were not present at the inaugural meet-up so I'll get to meet some new Adelaidian's who write on steemit tonight.
We talk about steemit being a community however it's one that resides behind computer and phone screens generally and a chance to meet up with some real people, like-minded in interests, is one too good to pass up. The initial meet-up arranged and hosted by @mattclarke was a great little event and I'm keen to see who fronts up tonight at The Jade.
I'm travelling to the UK and Finland in the middle of the year and am hoping to have the chance to meet some steemit users along the way. My brother @tarazkp lives in Finland and I know he's been on a recruiting drive so it's my hope to catch up with some of the people he's recruited and I follow also. I understand that many people prefer to have their device and the interweb between them and everyone else and the reasons behind it however there's nothing quite like face-to-face interaction with like-minded people over a beverage right? I think so anyway.
For those of you who happen to read this post and have not been to a meet-up it's worth doing and is a great way to engage. It's not that difficult to arrange either so if there's not one nearby put it out there on the interweb and see what happens.

I'm looking forward to meeting another kp. So far, I've only met zkp and skp. You seem to be quite the diverse bunch of siblings. 🙂
@tarazkp, perhaps we (meaning you) should organize a few meetups before @galenkp arrives? So hopefully, we (meaning me) won't look like complete tools and can pretend like we (me again) know what we're doing. 😜
“We meaning you” :)
Good idea though.
I know a couple of steemians in my area we are going to meet up and talk about how to improve our accounts here i need to make a decent income as it's difficult to find work for a foreigner where i live. Any passive income is welcome.
That sounds like an excellent idea and I think it's admirable that you are taking ownership if your own future by actively seeking opportunities to supplement your income.
Thanks! I'm trying i don't want to go back to dreary UK, it's getting worse unfortunately.
I'm heading there for a holiday this year. Looking forward to it. Possibly living there and visiting are different huh?
It's a beutiful country and great history and culture but inner-city living, working then when it gets dark you close the curtains, no evening walks or chilling out in restaurant/bars like i can do here in Northern Thailand.
I hear you! I'm into history and the countryside so am keen to get to the UK. Plus I've traced my ancestry back there to Cornwall so am spending time there also. Thailand is cool though huh? I've been a few times.
Thailand is great far from perfect but a better lifestyle than Uk. The english countryside is gorgeous if you get good weather it's a nice place to be i hope you enjoy it a lot.
I'll not be at work and engaging my passion for travel...I could be in Dante's 6th level of hell and be enjoying it. :)
It's usual for people dabbling in crypto to stay anonymous to avoid unwanted attention by the size of one's wallet but in Steemit, we are building a community and face-to-face interactions feel more natural.
Enjoy the meetup and Good Luck with the lucky door prize. :-D
Last Thursday of each month. Plan trips accordingly :)
Yeah, the mysterious crypto-dabblers...
What's the door prize? Meat tray? :)
I oz silver coin, thanks to @o07
@nerdfury won last time.
Meet ups is not that easy to organise. As a newbie who is still learning more about the platform. I have met a few newbie in the university am currently a final year student( Federal University Of Technology Minna, Nigeria) but has not been easy trying gather other people so we can meet with some people that have gone ahead.
With this post of yours, seems i will have to put in more efforts. Thanks

Thanks
It's looking like a big one. Six hours to go :)
So you're saying that you will be 30 mins late?
Have fun at your first meetup! Also I didn’t realize @tarazkp was your bro :)
Should be a good meet up. Apparently it's going to be HUUUUUGE! :)
Yeah, he's my little brother. Well, he's not that little, but you know what I mean. :) I'm looking forward to seeing him and meeting his family. Finland is a long way from Australia so it's been a while since we caught up. It'll be like meeting a steemit stranger. (haha, not really).
awww sounds like that should be a great time! :) I'm happy that you two steemit bros get to do your reunion! :)
Such a great photo of the pub!
It's actually a stock image however The Jade is a very cool place. They have an outdoor section where we congregated and they sell street food in there, a fusion of western and Cambodian - Pretty cool. It was a good night. I stayed out way to long for a weeknight but I'm a big boy. I'll Live. besides, today is Friday so Ive virtually started my weekend already!
I'm not going to make it as...well, that time passed and I was too far away to get there anyways. How'd it go? Make any cool connections? Do you put up signs all over the bar so that people ask about it and join up? :)
It was a really cool night. I knew most of the people there already and we just talked about stuff and I got to ask a lot of questions. We don’t put signs up or anything but we were a fairly large and conspicuous group with our user name tags on and all. There was a raffle with 1 ounce of silver for the prize and we had burgers and a beer or two. @mattclarke put a couple hundred bucks on the bar for drinks - Thanks Matt! Good night and looking forward to the next.
That's awesome! And very generous of Matt Clarke! I've been trying to build my own group by getting friends on here, but haven't succeeded very well. I don't get the issue. I've been doing the hard work of breaking ground. I'll have at least a $0.01 vote that I can give them on everything. That's a heck of a lot more than I had when I started. It's all good though. I'm not giving up. I'll keep bugging them until they get it to shut me up. Ha ha.
Who won the silver round?
Some people don’t have the ability to embrace new until everyone else does. I call them ‘sheeple’. I’ve recruited two, one who stopped after 1 post and another who is yet to call me to sit and get some basic tips. Still, the main thing is we’re here :). @mattclarke is a champ and is championing Adelaide. If he was in Game of Thrones he’d be Jon Snow! :)
I can’t recall who won the 999 which means it wasn’t me. :) It’s a good concept though huh?
Matt's a good dude. Not just because of what he's trying to do on steemit but in general. A great chap to hang out with. It's difficult to get people together due to their wish to stay anonymous I guess however there were 18 there last night and we were all just a group of people with steemit in common. Maybe you could start small with a couple and see how it goes. It will grow from there I'm sure. We were discussing a little concept we might put together which we think might be a cool thing for the greater steemit community to get behind. I won't say just what yet as it's a @mattclarke thing but I reckon it'll be cool. Anyway, it'll roll out over time I think. Good luck with your meet-up plans.
That idea has developed somewhat and I'm really excited about it.
Oh really? Well, I'm sure you will come up with something good. All the best with it.
@nerdfury won it.
I'm taking credit though. I gave him a 2017 steem silver round, and its his lucky coin now :)
You don't know how much headway you've made.
Perseverance is everything :)
