Steemit addiction and sleep deprivation

in #steemit8 years ago

Steemit is the first platform that has rewarded me for sharing my thoughts and comments and curating content. Things that I was already doing on other social media sites such as Reddit. That being said, I’ve been finding that I keep staying up late by steeming. Here’s why.

I’m gaining from other people’s experiences as they strategize in the Steemit landscape

I enjoy reading and curating content while looking for quality posts to upvote. At the same time, I am also learning what it takes to make an effective post. In fact, since my first two weeks using steemit I’ve learned so much about the steemit ecosystem, writing and what works and what doesn’t to the point where I stay up at night doing this.

Trying to be consistent with posting articles.

Following the advice of many successful steemians, I’ve found that consistency is the key to building your reputation through consistent postings. That is something that takes hard work though. In order to write something that is worth reading, you do have to put in some time, effort and thought into the process. While never having truly run a blog before, it’s been a real eye opener so far.

Constantly checking reactions to posts.

If you have recently posted to the site, you already know that within the first few hours of putting up a post, you are acutely aware of the reactions you’re getting. I don’t know about you, but when I put up a new post, I’m constantly checking the status of new votes like a fiend.

Spending time in the active/new sections

Although I do scan the trending sections initially. I find that the most effective way to curate posts is by checking the new and active sections of the site. I find it exiting to be one of the first to notice an article and give it an upvote. I have heard that you need to wait at least 30 minutes for your vote to actually get a reward. Regardless, I’ve found that being one of the first to notice an article is exciting and rewarding.

All in all, it’s been an exciting first two weeks to be a part of this community. Although I have been having some tired days at my day job, it’s been an overall entertaining and rewarding experience.

It is addictive but at least you get to read some good stuff!

I wrote a post about my Steemit Addiction. https://steemit.com/writing/@pairmike/somebody-help-me-please

Yeah it seems funny, but the truth is that many people are spending here like 18 hours a day, they are just addicted.
Im actually addicted to gambling, i like to loose a shitton of money however i dont see the point of being addicted to posting haha :) Maybe it is because it gives you some profit if you will catch some luck.

Are you kidding me? @fireriseace This is exactly what is happening to me....Imgur
Check the rest of my blog for stuff like this. Thanks.

I feel as though I could get addicted to this, but honestly don't think it will ever be an effective source of income

@funding-engg For some it might become "a source of income." And for many it won't. But of the 40 Million REDDIT bloggers/users, how many of those do you think REDDIT FOR A LIVING? How Many do you think ever got paid $1 by Reddit? People need places to vent, write, express and even troll. Here you just might get some cents or dollars, you never know. But I know with 100% certainty what you will or won't get on those other social media sites.

Yeah that's true . People do make good money for blogging though. It's just that this platform provides a cash quantifier for even entry level users giving it its own flair.
I can't help but think it's just going to create a circlejerk of posts that appeal to the hive mind, worse than reddit as it's voting system involves actual currency. The results could be good or go downhill very quickly, but I'm interested nonetheless.

It's already a circlejerk. I agree, it's going to be interested to see what happens.

I know what that feels like. I've been through it in my first 2 weeks of Steemit :)

Vote more people! You'll have enough time to reap those curation rewards later with more people and more SP. :)

Oh I never stooped, I keep commenting and voting. I just do it in phases along the day to keep the Voting Power efficient (high) and have the most impact. Here, I upvoted you see?

I know what you mean, I just mean that curation rewards aren't that big for us minnows yet, we earn a lot more from comments/posts and it makes curation not matter that much at all. I'm just saying that its not that important at this phase to be careful about votes and try be above 80-90% and not vote on other users just for the benefit of getting full curation rewards.

Its more important to vote away and welcome all new users and those who contribute. Its easy to tell that a lot of people save up on voting power as much as they can (most comment sections are empty from votes even though posts make 1k-10k) and that is just a bit lame in my opinion as a lot of quality can come from the comment section and originality.

I wish I had 3-4 accounts on same SP so I could switch and still remain as active as I am now with voting, but I don't care that much about the curation rewards currently as they are fairly tiny because of our SP level.

as a minnow yes, adding a +1 gives more appreciation than $ at the moment.
I'm not sure about the 3-4 accounts though :) I only have this one and put all my efforts in it!

The addiction ends when you are not getting enough rewards.

I've only just signed up, but I can see myself not really taking to it, because it's an income source that stops as soon as you stop. (i.e. It doesn't build a long-term recurring passive income, which I think would be a better use of one's time).

a mi me pasa lo mismo saludos desde venezuela excelente post

I think I would gonna love this site....

Awesome and thanks!! I've read about your featured posts before and I really like them.
