We did it! 700 flyers shared, 20 accounts opened and over 80 phone numbers acquired: Photos and news from the Steemit Port Harcourt promotion/parade in Nigeria
So we just concluded the first ever Steemit Parade in Port Harcourt and (possibly Nigeria) and it was a success. See promo post HERE.
The venue was the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers State; and though we encountered some difficulties, we ended up meeting a huge target with a team of 4, myself and 3 minnows if you may. I had just recruited them and they showed signs to be part of the steemit community. @kamaraoti @davethomas and @igwemohgeorge were amazing and they made the promotion fun, especially the almost 2 miles walk into the campus from the east gate.
EXPECTATIONS
As for everything planned, we set our minds to storm the University of Port Harcourt with 1500 flyers and a team of at least 10 persons as we had printed T-shirts to cover that number. New members were pegged at 100 with hopes of getting over 50 phone numbers of interested persons.CHALLENGES
The day started out as a rainy day, given it has been raining in Port Harcourt everyday for the last 2 weeks. On getting to the rendezvous point, I was disappointed to meet nobody there. All efforts to reach the supposed steemians and newbies proved futile and after waiting for almost 2 hours, I set out with the team that was available.
Between the 4 of us, I was the only one with an account that is above 25. After having another round of peep talk with them, we hit the ground running.RESULTS
We distributed close to 700 flyers, helped at least 12 persons register on their smartphones and secured over 80 phone numbers of interested persons and we are putting them in a Whatsapp group to better help and manage the community. We also happened on some few persons who had registered on Steemit for weeks and have been inactive for lack of "understanding of the steemit platform.
Let me not bore you with too much stories, just enjoy the picture and a little video we made for you. We would have gotten more pictures but we were limited and had to take turns to snap some for your viewing pleasure.
PEP TALK AND DIRECTIONS TIME.
I got so excited that I was lifted off the ground when I discovered we had shared 500 flyers.
This guy (@samsplashk) used his smart phone to register on the spot and insisted we take his pix
SNACK TIME - the team took time out to have some snack after walking and talking to students for 2 miles.., or there about. hehehe
I will be posting the video soon.
Make the world a better place for someone! ...and lend a support for the worthy cause.
this is really awesome. it is events like this that has to be supported immensely. imagine that the event had more than was put into it, that means that the outcome would have been more than this. this is really awesome.
thanks @ejemai for your vision of project20millionnaija. though it is starting small, i am confident of a great success.

thanks mate, looking forward to the influx
Great post @ejemai, your efforts are very hard to introduce this @steemit to other people who are in your area. previously I also never any intention to do the same thing as you, but I do not know what form such a great flyers I use to distribute to people. very interesting and I am proud of you guys. continue to be excited in this group to introduce another brother, nice to know in steemit.
@herzaseptian Thanks for the kind words. Talking to people about steemit comes naturally for me, I just say it the way it makes me feel. I love the idea of being free and seeing others having an opportunity to be who they can be and not what I want them to be. You can check @timcliff for flyers and how to participate. You can do it!
Thank you very much for your response @ejemai
I think knowing why your people need steemit and what they stand to gain will be the right place to start.
So exciting! Keep up the great work!
thank you
Great work
This is massive... Thumbs up! We're planning on something like this in Enugu too. Everyone needs to know about steemit, the fun and opportunities.
Thanks and it is a good thing you guys are up to some good in Enugu. You may let me know if you need some support for when you are ready to kick off. Good luck with the plans though.
