STEEM Just Overtook BitShares In Marketcap
I mostly wanted to make note of this because I missed it, and it was @raluca who pointed it to me the other evening (yes, we're sometimes spending parts of our evenings watching Coinmarketcap evolutions, which, under certain conditions, can be more exciting than action movies).
Both cryptocurrencies are hovering around 1 and a half billion USD market cap, which is astonishing, for projects launched just 2-3 years ago. Also, it's worth noting that just a year ago, a market cap over $1 billion would have guaranteed a place in top 10.
Well, not anymore.
On a side note, it's a bit concerning that projects with nothing more than a white paper and a shitload of marketing money thrown at the naive cohorts of crypto fans, are riding the top 10, while established projects, with battle-tested technologies and a real user base, like Steem and BitShares, are sitting below top 30.
Well, I guess naivety has its price. And it's a very high price to pay, IMHO.

Wanna know when you're getting paid?
I know the feeling. That's why I created steem.supply, an easy to use and accurate tool for calculating your Steemit rewards | |
Great news.. I wish and hope that Steem overtakes EOS in marketcap...
Popularity boosted by hype will soon run dry. But popularity caused by being an interactive platform will definitely rise slowly but surely... With sustainability. Word of mouth is still the best marketing.
Thanks again for the very informative post.
I didn't notice you were the one who created steem.supply. I' m checking it now, and it's really very helpful!
By the way, back to the topic, I hope that STEEM further accelerates, and this can happen when all of us here do our part. :)
i use it daily. it's one of the best tools for checking steem.
I agree! It's helpful when you are setting goals for yourself. A great tool indeed!
@dragosrous,
Well said Bro. Lots of shits at the top while the future at the stress test.
Cheers~
STEEMIT will be back where she belongs in the TOP 10 I can sense it. You cannot keep her a SECRET Forever............
steemit's first meeting with the market was quite controversial, it's been called a scam from 30% of people and with good reason. Btw Steem is the blockchain, steemit is the site, steemit isn't on coinmarket cap they are a private company.
I think people are just caught up with the usual, so nobody's expecting or paying attention to the huge slew of information the internet is providing, everyone is on their news board and by the time the news is broadcasted it's already waaaay tooo late and I don't even want to get into the bullshit articles "news" reporters write from time to time.
We all should get to together and "HYPE STEEM UP" throughout the internet haha
Yup I know I was thinking steem was top8 a while back, now even at the peak it dropped significantly in the marketcap, buuut big business has it's tentacles so they have the money and the speculators follow the money and boom, nothing new, stupidity triumphs, bitcoin is a bubble :D
The projects that are boosted to the top 10 purely by marketing are the ones that are going to fall dramatically at some point when people start paying attention to utility more than hype with cryptos.
I'm not too sure, projects take a long while and people are allover the place, plus there is a lot of misinformation, solicitation and of course whales pumping the coins up
couldn't agree more with that...
We might have some marketing coming online tomorrow.
I find it funny to see how many ICO with bad marketing and no true concept like the rinse and repeat HYIP get so much attention and millions in capital gained. And some true projects out there with real vision and purpose solving real world problems struggle. Crypto is becoming a quick flip game but in time only real projects with purpose will last Steemit will be one of them.
hopefully, but with so many fish in the sea, we better have something good to offer here, so we might as well keep being and growing
Word!
Sooner or later, the real useful projects will get the due recognition while the pumped up projects will get what is due to them. That's the truth of the market. It's only a question of when and not if.
