PSA: Warning Of A Scam Using The gtg.witnesses Account!
As Steemit user @isacoin observed earlier today, there is a new scam going on these days.
An account called @gtg.witnesses (which has nothing in common with @gtg, a well-known and reputed witnesses) was asking for rewards in exchange of witness votes.
The account was sending small amounts of SBD and then, in the memo, was pointing to the site http://steem-rewards.com/ where, allegedly, you could claim something back.
But in that site, which looked, at the press time, like this:
there was a strong smell of good ol' scam. No FAQ, Privacy or Terms of use content (although the links are present, but if click on them, nothing happens). IWhen I used the form, this happened:
And when I clicked on "Claim Rewards" I was presented with the familiar form from steemconnect, only I wasn't on steemconnect.com site. I was still on steem-rewards.com site, which means my key - if I would put it in that form - would arrive somewhere else.
DO NOT PUT YOUR KEY IN ANY OTHER SITE THAN steemit.com, steemconnect.com (or sites that you know beforehand that are safe and you trust).
As users get more educated, scams get more elaborate, so please stay safe.
Two hours ago, after @isacoin posted, the offers stopped and the scam seems to be off, but please stay alert.

Wanna know when you're getting paid?
I know the feeling. That's why I created steem.supply, an easy to use and accurate tool for calculating your Steemit rewards | |
wow, thanks for discovering and sharing this !
it's @isacoin who spotted it, I'm mainly sharing his findings.
Thanks @dragosroua for sharing this timely and important information about the phishing attempt by steem-rewards.com ...We need to be very alert when using keys outside steemit.com
Whoever created the site put so much effort. Why not just the effort in creating quality content. Desperate moves.
What makes this even more scurrilous is that anyone falling for this would have no doubt been someone desperate for a few dollars or not tech savvy enough to spot it, though it seems they only went after the big names...no doubt they'll be back after going to such elaborate lengths, Id be watching that Ovzil account though. I hate these scum with a passion. Well done on highlighting this. I will immediately resteem it.
Kindest regards.
Thank you very much for sharing this info
All scammer need to be blocked and remove immediately from steemit or from any other blockchain network
For any of you that may see scammer please share it with all of us we need to help each other
Damn, that was one hell of a clever scam. Many people could have fallen for that. Thanks for keeping us updated. Next time I see the SteemConnect logo, I will check the adress bar... Damn, I am shocked.
Thanks for sharing this information. It's unfortunate, but as other commenters have pointed out, the growth of Steemit.com will attract more and more of these types of scammers - some simple and some increasingly elaborate I'm sure.
you always provide some great posts really appreciate your work as a new user. wish you all the best.
