Hello friends of Steem! As I told you in my personal presentation, I will soon obtain the title of #IngenieroIndustrial, that's why I would like to share with you a little about this beautiful career. Today I bring you a critical analysis, made by me, the theme is about the role of the Industrial Engineer in production systems.

The need for the Industrial Engineer in an increasingly competitive globalized market

Nowadays, when more and more organizations are betting on productivity management and continuous improvement of quality to survive in a globalized market, increasingly competitive, the need for industrial engineers tends to grow more and more. Why this growth? Industrial engineers are the only engineering professionals trained specifically to be specialists in productivity and quality improvement.

What is an Industrial Engineer?

According to the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the industrial engineer is responsible for the analysis, interpretation, design, programming and control of production and logistics systems in order to manage, implement and establish optimization strategies in order to achieve the maximum performance of the processes of creation of goods and / or the rendering of services.

Role of the Industrial Engineer in Productive Systems

The role of the industrial engineer in the design of productive systems, management and key services. A principle of total quality explains the importance of the functions performed by the industrial engineer: "If it can not be measured, it can not be controlled, if it can not be controlled it can not be controlled, and if it can not be "The scope of functions of an industrial engineer is very broad, it can be involved in any productive activity and services, through the pursuit of productivity productivity.

Techniques applied in the development of Productive Systems

Michael Porter, in his conference "The Competitiveness" held in Lima Peru in November 2009, lists some techniques, methods and applications used for industrial engineering that contributes to the development of design, planning and control of production systems .

They are between them:

1. • Use of systems simulation methods, in order to improve production and service designs or create new designs and see the result before the investment in infrastructure or equipment is made.2. • Application of statistical techniques for a better analysis and control of productive processes and services.3. • Use of techniques and methods of operations research for the design of optimal processes and services, in terms of quantity of materials, locations, forecasts of execution times, and so on.
4. • Use of techniques and methods of study of work and organization and methods for the design of processes and efficient work stations, in order to determine the optimal amount of personnel, to lower costs and labor surcharges.5. • Selection and analysis of technologies and equipment appropriate to the needs of the processes through the use of appropriate techniques.6. • Application of quality control techniques to evaluate the required standards and reduce costs in the production and service processes.

Objective of the Industrial Engineers

The goal of industrial engineers is to create increasingly better execution procedures. They direct engineering processes and systems that improve quality and productivity. They work to eliminate over-productions, waits, unnecessary movements, defective products; optimize transportation, inventories, operations, the use of energy resources and the use of human ability. Therefore, many industrial engineers end up being promoted to management positions.
