Is it better to focus on just one platform like steemit or dtube and ignore the other variance?

Why would you do that? Every platform has it's advantages, so use every platform you can depending on the material you would like to publish and promote. If it's a video, Dtube, if it's a song dsound, and ofc use facebook, twitter, YouTube etc. for promotion as they are still the most popular.
