Social Media

As per Google, "Social Media" is defined as:

websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.

The key user criteria for a social media platform to be relevant are to have the ability to:

  • 1 Create content.
  • 2 Share created content.
  • 3 Network participation.

Is STEEMIT a social media platform?

Well to answer this question, one needs to evaluate the current STEEMIT offering against the 3 social media platform criteria mentioned above.

1 Create content

STEEMIT provides a very basic, yet very efficient way for users to create content. Once you have the basic styling codes covered, the story creation is extremely easy. Obviously I am NOT referring to content creation.

2 Network participation

The key here is to have a virtual network, where a network relates to individuals that are connected in some way.
STEEMIT facilitate this social media key criterion, by allowing to follow STEEMIT members, hopefully because you like the type of content they publish. Browsing content of these users you follow and commenting on them, creates the opportunity for people to discover you and subsequently follow you.
Other users who randomly browse posts of certain categories may come across your content and in this way, follow you.

Thus, STEEMIT has a very basic, but yet again, a very effective way of creating virtual networks.

3 Share created content

Content you create has much more value to those people who follow you as apposed to those users who randomly browse STEEMIT.

This is exactly where STEEMIT looses its status as SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM. The key application functionality which enables content sharing within a virtual network, is NOTIFICATIONS.
If I don't get a notification that, someone I follow, has created content, I will NOT view their content, and in STEEMIT's case, not comment or upvote such posts, making the idea of STEEMIT useless.

Having 1098 feed notifications or only 1, is irrelevant if the notifications functionality doesn't work.

Call for action STEEMIT programmers

Now I have heard that STEEMIT is in beta phase. Well, sorry, but you need to ensure the 3 main criterion of a social media platform to have an attempt at success.

Now it might seem like I am a STEEMIT hater but be assured, I simply want STEEMIT to get their act together regarding key critical features.

If anyone or everyone can RESTEEM so this article can find the correct role players, please do so. This way we might get the problem resolved faster and all reap the benefits of a correct working social media platform which pays you for good content.
