Leveling up on STEEMIT - How exactly does this work?

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

So, i've been working hard on my steemit account to post video's, stories, questions, and thoughts. Occasionally I will level up 1 level (currently at 50). I notice some people that just open their accounts suddenly have over 60 on their level? So my question...When leveling up, is it about the number of vote up's? Stories posted? Popularity? number of subscribers? Still trying to figure this steemit out. Any takers? Thanks for your responses.

Great question @crowe
Thank you! This post has really generated a lot of good information.
Much appreciation goes to everyone who shared on this post, really helpful.

Thanks. I agree. I didn't know so many people would post with great info.

I think it's about your interaction with Steemians, you need to engage in comments and arguments as well as posting meaningful stuffs, that gets you leveled in no time.

I've been interacting quite a bit. I'll focus more on that. I appreciate the comment.

Thanks! I just love how Steemians love to share knowledge. Usually when someone figured out a recipe for success on a plaform, they stay tight lipped.

Sweet I love arguin lol

Yeah, I got to level 44 and am stuck there.

You will get over the hump. Just keep posting.

well as in your situation I'm also trying my best to level up by posting quality content, curating, commenting and up voting , still in the learning mode

How come you are only on level 16? I thought that everyone starts at 25?

From what I remember, it's about higher reputation people upvoting your content. Doesn't matter when/where, but their reputation matters.
Also, the higher your reputation, the longer it takes to increase it. That's why people go higher than 25 very easily, but eventually it slows down and by the time you get above 60, it feels like it's stopped increasing completely.

Thanks for the tip. I moved up to 50 fairly fast. I can't imagine being past 60.

How long did it take you to get to 50?

Tnx, noticed it went up when they upvoted, tho ts been stuck at 43 recently even tho have had a number recently from such. ?

One thing i recently found out. Vote up on all of your comments and others that comment on your site. This adds to your vote count.

Tnx bro...

I'll second that! I'm finding it bloody hard...

Yes, it seems like i'm just stuck at level 50?

i am new on this am still trying to work out how some people make big money and i only get a few cents haha maybe i will stick to buying silver and gold 😀

I made pennies sometimes as well on each post. I simply focused on getting more subscribers and posted like crazy. Now, at level 50 I make between .06 to .20 cents on average per post.

Don't get it, you've churned out a lot of blogs of late. Hopefully someone will answer soon.
I'm speculating that its down to both new people upvoting and also who is upvoting i.e. you need high ranking voters to go up a notch!

Ah, high voters. I'll give that a shot too. Time to talk with big levelers.

Yes not plebs such as myself!!!

Ditto! But I think some people put in their own money to increase steem power

Ah, now that makes sense.

I wonder also if it depends on how quicly people upvote your blog from it being released?
Does getting 20 votes within the first minute have more weight than 20 votes after 3 days?

I was also wondering about that. Good question.

I dont really know what causes to go up. but it seems to get slower the higher you go. From 25 to 40 went fairly quickly, but since that its going increasingly slower. One of the mysteries of the steem forest... :)

I just asked the question on here too, can see you are having the same problem as I am at the moment, I'm suck on 49.9 for over a week now, not sure why as I post and they get small clicks and upvotes. frustrating.

The reputation goes up from the upvotes you get, and in relation to the value of those upvotes. If you only get upvotes of 0.01$ or even less, it takes ages to go higher. What you need are some whale upvotes... :)

Yes, need to wish on a whale in this big beautiful ocean. Thanks I will see if I can get any interest :D

"The number you see at the top of your blogs and next to names in posts or comments is the Reputation Score. It is used as a tool showing how many positive votes versus negative (or flag) votes on the site. This score ranges from -25 up to 75, with new users starting at 25."

❓Answering Common Questions: Reputation and Flags! What's this Number by my Name?

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the comment.

Thank you x2

It is exponentially harder to get the next level up in reputation.
So yes, it is completely normal for your rep increase rate to slow way down at this point.

Guess I'll just have to welcome a lot of new people to steemit. Well start working on new subscribers.

It is set up like the Reichter earthquake scale. You need ten times more reputation points to go up to the next level. So to get to level 51, you need 10 times as many points as you needed to get to 50.

Thanks for the specifics. I appreciate it.

Thank you for the insight
