are you aware of already existing plans where the SMT is going to be used? Steemit INC certainly has a reason to develop this apart from "being nice" to users :)
I'm not sure I understand the question. SMT is a generic name for an activity you, as a user, can perform on the Steem blockchain, namely to issue your own token, with your own name and parameters.
My understandig was that steemit is providing the infrastructure in order to allow the user to use SMT for custom tokens - maybe I get things wrong?

I was thinking if there are already concrete plans (by steemit or others) on SMT use cases, that maybe were even driving/initiating the development of this framework
