Boring Steemit Post Thursday Night: Griping and Thankful at the Same Time

Tis the season to be exhausted. I'm here to gripe to you about being the homeschooling mom of 5 who has decision fatigue. And then you throw in Christmas and it's way too many choices to make and things to do. I hate shopping so I do all I can online and have it delivered. Free shipping! I am spoiled, and I know that. We don't even spend that much on each kid. Well, I'm sure that's all relative.

Right now it's painful financially since we just moved back at the end of October and everything is more costly now. Tomorrow we get our vehicles tagged and have to pay a huge deposit on a Scout high adventure trip scheduled for next summer for my son and husband.

I am thankful that I work from home and get paid to blog, write articles, write books and proofread online. I don't know what we would do without that money. I guess there would be no braces. There would be no 12-passenger van. There would be no Scout trips for sure. There would be no Scouts, for that matter. It can be a money suck, especially at fundraiser time!

Anyway, I'm also thankful my husband has a job. And health insurance. And that we got our dream to move to the country. It's so peaceful out here I should be cranking out paid articles like a candy factory. But once the kids wake up their energy consumes me and I am all about them. Educating them in schoolish things like math and English and history and science but also in how to do laundry, to be kind, to be helpful, to do dishes, how to drive, how to save money. And, according to the picture above, how to shoot Airsoft guns.

So here is the deal. I am griping but I am also thankful. It's like that Alanis Morissette song where she feels drunk but she's sober. She's tired but she's working. She cares but she's restless.

How are you doing this holiday season?

Sort:

I grew up in a large family (hi, my official family name was/is 3 of 6) and I feel your pain. hahaha (I laugh so I don't cry, etc. hehe) I hope you make it through the holiday season well and that you are gentle with yourself. I have the utmost respect for the hard work you do and basically suffer through being a mom of so many children.

May you find a few moments of peace and joy amongst the general chaos of life!

Merry Christmas and/or happy holidays or whatever you prefer to call this time of year! :)

I'm a humanist/non-religious so I just call it the start of winter and the time for eating too much food and looking at some pretty lights on some houses. (and hearing some annoying Santa Claus related songs, etc. hahaha)

Thanks for the reply! There is no suffering through though :-) I love it but it's chaotic! And 7 years later it's not easier, just different. I only wish sometimes that I were two people so I could make sure everything is covered! Have a great start of winter coming!
