What is LBRY?

LBRY has created a new digital marketplace where creators are in charge of their content. They are working to shake up the way we use and pay for digital content, which is a really exciting! Monetizing through ads, like Youtube does, is annoying for users and interferes with the creator’s content. LBRY allows creators to be in charge of the price of their content, and provides a reliable way to access it.

Here’s does it work?

LBRY is a protocol, rather than a host. This means that it is open and accessible to all, but not governed by LBRY, the company. Anyone can have a LBRY domain and do what they want with it. Creators can host their content and set their price (in LBC), with no middle man taking fees. If this doesn’t make sense, no worries- they explain it in detailed normal people words here.

Who’s working on it?

Their CEO, Jeremy Kauffman, is making all the right moves. He does these great bite sized videos answering user’s questions. These allow LBRY to rank for more keywords, while also making their content more accessible for the average user. No one wants to watch hour long Q and A’s to find the answer to one question, or worse, not get an answer to their question at all. They also have a CTO, COO, and some great developers. I love that they’re running this project like a business, it makes it so much easier for me to buy into it.

Who’s buying it?

LBRY has done a great job building their community. They have very active Reddit and Slack communities with thousands of people who are interested in their product. Their Youtube channel features the CEO answering users questions, meaning LBRY is really paying attention to what their users think of the project. Their Facebook and Twitter are fairly active. I’d like to see more original content and reposting on their part, but users are interacting with their posts, which is awesome.

Should I buy it?

For me, it’s a definite yes. I love this project and have been buying LBC. If you do decide that you’d like to invest in this project, don’t do it on my word. Do your research and read everything you can about LBRY before putting any money into this project. And don’t put any money in that you aren’t ready to lose.
