Why do trending posts stay in the trending list for as long as they do?
What determines how long a post stays on the "trending" list?
Also, what is the difference between "trending" and "Hot"?
What's the difference between "Active" and "New"?
Why do I have so many questions?

Definitely an issue as to how long the post stays on the front page. One thing I really like about reddit is how they nailed the algorithm for upvotes, timing, and the front page. The biggest issue is that posts that might not really deserve $10k or $20k get that high up since they are kept around on the top page so long.

I think the reason is that there really is not that much original quality content being created thus we see a huge disparity between a handful of really great posts that stay in the trending section and a huge deluge of spam and copy pasted content from other parts of the web that clutter up the "new" section.
