Gain Legitimacy through Trust and Stuff

in #steemit7 years ago

Forewarning: I know nothing about writing articles, Everything here is from my experience as a reader of articles and my thoughts around it. Maybe your mind works differently (very likely)

Have you found yourself scrolling through articles and you see something like this

trustworthy.PNG

Lets look at the title. This author is claiming to know an unknown truth about bitcoin & the use of "The" would suggest that this "truth" is a universal one. He then goes on to say "It is time to unveil The Truth About Bitcoin", which reinforces his authoritative language used in the title.

But we don't know @jagg1? From where does he derive his authority? Is he, or does he report to, reptilian overlords? Even if his article had groundbreaking content that shaped our view of bitcoin (sorry @jagg1 I'm sure your a nice guy!) why would we trust him?

Lets look at why we trust/distrust people.

Words don't match with actions

Like with the above example, he speaks about the "bitcoin truth" yet doesn't tell you the article was copy pasted from a website. On the flipside, when an authors actions and words match, you know what to expect.
Example @patriotwargamer writes stories about fucking his callgirl-friend, If you follow him, you will see stories about him fucking his callgirl-friend.

Grandiose claims and talking with complete authority

Scientists call their tested, peer reviewed and scrutinized ideas theories! One tends to be skeptical of someone claiming to know "the truth". On the flipside, when you present an idea and back it up with sources it makes your idea stronger.

Example @diabolika is a traveling person who asks questions and proposes answers & she shows proof of her travels in photographs (unless she is really bored and good at photoshop)

Because other people you trust, trusts them

This is how celebrity endorsements worked when people trusted celebrities just really like the product they endorsed and not the fat paycheck. On the flipside its a quick way to gain trust

Example: Your workmate refers you to a massage guy, you don't know anything about the guy rubbing your back but you trust your workmate does

In summary

  • People need to trust in you and your articles in order to believe in your content
  • You gain trust by consistency in words & actions, backing up claims and being endorsed
  • People wont generally trust a new steemian making grandiose claims with no backup

Of course you have no reason to trust me or the words I write so umm, if it seems right to you go with it?

Sort:

I extend trust to closed social circles. Not to the extent I get burned but my co-workers (squad) is tightly knit as well as my Brother Freemasons. I would even suggest we wager whenever we trust anyone, like when I moved into a better house in a better neighborhood I felt I should extend my trust to gain trust (still have not exchanged keys with my Nextie). If people were a little more familiar with classical logic they wouldn't even read drivel like "Truth About BTC" they would wager their own money based on evidence.

Thanks for the mention - there is more to me than fucking my call girl - girlfriend ! (slight typo, but I forgive you lol)
But you are correct - people can soon tell if you are writing truth (even in fiction), or trying blagg it.
