They are still in the mindsets of the old ways that worked in the past. They will stop and assimilate when no one upvotes their posts.

People see the money making posts of the whales on the trending page. Those that have invested in the platform overtime.

They think they can do the same thing, but in days instead of months/years.

This leads to spam posts, follow/follow spam comments, plagiarized content, and people essentially begging.

Combine that with the speculative nature of crypto currencies where 1 SBD could be worth $4, $10, or $15 in some imagined future, and you have a recipe for abuse instead of use.

Not that I am supporting abuse, but while to you account value may not be the point, to others that's exactly what it is. Like you said Steemit is incentivized, hence it attracts those seeking to increase their value. How they go about it is a different story. And why the get rich quick? Many enjoy instant gratification. We have been conditioned for it, not that that's a valid excuse.
