We need substeemits
With one simple change this place can compete with reddit. We need substeemits. Since everything is based on hot, new, trending perhaps the substeemits or substeems could just be a combination view of those. So for instance if I go to steemit.com/javascript or steemit.com/s/javascript it would show me a combination of what's in /trending/javascript and /hot/javascript.
This would likely be the easiest way to implement this.
Edit: I really hope this gets some exposure so the devs know this is a feature we really, really want. Thanks to all those helping to get it noticed.
Yes, should be the first improvement from a users perspective. Although security and accesability will probably be on the minds of the devs right now.

steemit is just started.
there will be these type of options in future for sure.
I actually think this one might be relatively easy for them to implement as it's based on how it's working now.
This is currently one of the most demanded features right now. So many good posts get pushed aside and never see the light of day because we're all basically posting on the same board. I hope the devs are considering this.
Given the way it works now, this would likely be the easiest way to implement it.

I think you will get what you want but at the moment i think the guys at steem are flat out just trying to make this whole thing work. You will see massive improvements once they get a chance to breathe . They probable have been blown away by steems success so far.
