Behind Steemit #5 - Free Steemit? Censorship everywhere?

In this project we will not accuse anyone, we will only show the information that goes unnoticed by the common user, and even, for the whales.

Report nº5

This report comes as a information that we think that everybody should be aware of.

We are going to try to keep this post as neutral as possible.

So... In a post about censorship, @sneak made this acclaim. Here he's basically saying that anyone is allowed to hide other comments that they don't want to be seen in their posts.

So, @dwinblood made a strong and right comment. No one should have to access the blockchain to see everything that happens on Steemit

We don't think everybody got the technical skills to query through the Steem Blockchain to find whatever they want.

And, yes, all the data isn't being showed on Steemit.

And, if we watch it from the technical side, indeed, we can see this as censorship on Steemit.

And here he acclaims that everyone has the freedom to modify the Steemit chain but, infact, the only that can do that, is Steemit Inc.
This is shown in a license that @dan tried to erase

This exact line tell us that Steemit doesn't allow any major modifications that isn't made by them

Steem is basically dependent on Steem Inc. Steem isn't universal, it doesn't belong to it's users. If Steem Inc closes, others would be able to fix minor bugs, but would not have permission to do anything major (for example... a hardfork)

They’ve entirely open sourced the Steemit.com source code, but the Steem blockchain remains under the control of Steemit Inc.

  • This is just the top of the iceberg, we have tons of information that we will we posting eventually. Hope you guys can support us to make a more clean and transparent community.

LET'S UNVEIL THE TRUTH

What I find interesting is the lack of comment on this post. Are people pondering the information, processing it, wondering what it all means? or are people slightly worried to comment.

Most of the time there is a reasonable reason for things, but without communication I get we will not know.

I would love to see some official steemit people reply to this post

Well this account is quite new and has little following. Thats the biggest reason. The second reason is as you say....Fear of commenting on such a controversial and dangerous topic/account. People don't want to loose their money....yet again money stifles freedom and truth.

looks like @sneak's censorship system may be coming soon. He really thinks it is ok to just delete other people's replies as pleased:

"They can just open their own post as reply" yeah like I'm gonna open a new post for every reply I want to make and clog up my followers timeline? Replies belong below the relevant posts. That's the logical way.
Who's afraid of Replies and why? who's behind this push? some corporations? the CIA?...
There's absolutely no need for such censorship, if anything it stifles and discourages debate, and he seems the only one pushing for it. I don't see Steemians screaming for an option to delete whichever reply they don't like. In the massive community Feature Requests list compiled by @timcliff it was nowhere to be seen. Steemians appreciate that this is a censorship resistant platform, and anti-social behaviour and spam is already tackled by the flagging/downvoting system.
The other reason he gives is that "other social media allow it"....yeah Facebook and Youtube....exactly the kind of censored Social Media we should be moving on from.
Your post shows that Sneak was pushing for such censorship already 8 months ago, but obviously as @dan @dantheman was still there there was no chance of such measures being implemented back then.
Looks like since Dan left things are taking a dark turn, and maybe he saw it coming and that's why he left.
BTW I thought Steem had been made fully open source, I guess not.
I find it ironic that Sneak apologized for deleting comments from Github saying he wanted to keep it all here on Steemit so everyone could partecipate....but now wants that deletion tool on Steemit too to prevent some replies from being seen.
I don't care much about the Open Source licence thing (I can understand they don't want just someone to copycat them), but if @ned and @andrarchy start allowing replies to just disappear from the site anyone who cares about free and open discourse will inevitably have to move elsewhere. Steemit would risk turning into a platform for promoted propaganda posts with no real debate.

I believe much of the content you're posting is going way ovr the heads of most users here. The manipulation should be transparent and the users should be told of this fact.
