Powering Up!

money-2724241_1280.jpg

A couple days ago, @steemcommunity announced the Minnow Power Up League initiative. I am already in @abh12345’s Curation and Engagement Leagues (didn’t make it on to the recent list with being on vacation), so I thought, why not join this new league and track my progress to Dolphin status? It would likely be slow progress since I don’t post often, but I am trying to work on that aspect as well!

One other growth hindrance is that I don’t power up the STEEM portion of the Author’s reward. I prefer to use it for @steemmonsters cards 😁.

Now that I have a healthy collection of Steem Monsters cards, I will start powering up post earnings in order to track my journey to Dolphin-hood. Any extra STEEM in my account was purchased and is being saved for good Steem Monsters deals. :)

Increase in the Author Rewards Payout?

@crokkon was kind enough to stop by and answer the question for me! Thank you!

No need to read further, but feel free to do so!

Gentlemen, I hope you don't mind my using you both as examples!

Since my new goal is to power up, I thought I would try the 100% SP payout so I don’t have to remember to power up. In the past when rewards were paid in SBD/SP, there were reasons why it was preferable to choose the 50/50 payout. I don't believe the reasoning still holds true but I have no way of knowing until I try myself.

As luck has it, I came across @taskmaster4450’s Minnow Uprising post. Although I can never post that many times a day or even in a week, his initiative intrigues me. I noticed he has been setting his rewards to 100% SP payout. Bingo! A way to check if the option of powering up 100% is detrimental or beneficial.

So I took a peek at the reward structure on one of his payout to see if there is a difference with 100% SP (beauty of this Steem platform 😊).

Then discovered that recent Author Rewards payout is MORE than the post earnings!

As you can see, the Author Rewards payout is MORE than as stated on the post earning!

TM-power_up.jpg

I decided to check with another author who also posts regularly and found @nathanmars had a recent post that paid out with the 100% SP option. Another bingo!

Again, the Author Rewards payout is MORE than the post earning!

nathan.power_up.jpg

So then I checked a post with the 50/50 option that was recently paid.

Again, the Author Rewards payout is MORE than the post earning!

It doesn’t appear that choosing Author Rewards in 50/50 or 100% payout is the reason for this payout difference.

Here is the interview post my teammate, @mellofello, wrote on Tim Cliff that was paid out nearly a week ago.

Author Rewards payout is LESS than the post earning!

HF 20 Related?

At first, I thought it might be related to Hardfork 20 but the given date for go live is September 25th. Additionally, 17/21 votes must be cast for the adoption, and at the time of this writing, only 12 witnesses are running the new version.

Per @steemitblog's HF 20 post:

Witnesses should review the changes in the hardfork release. If they agree with the changes, they should run the new version of Steem at their earliest convenience. By running the new version of Steem, they are casting their vote for the changes. By choosing not to run the new version of Steem they are casting their vote not to hardfork.

Steemians should also review the changes in the hardfork release and vote for witnesses that agree on whether they accept or reject the hardfork. To see what version of steemd a witness is running, go to https://steemd.com/witnesses and vote for them at https://steemit.com/~witnesses. The hardfork vote of the top 20 witnesses determines whether the hardfork‒and the improvements included within it‒becomes active or not.

It appears that being sick is affecting my creative mind but not my curious nature 😁. Did I miss something important during my vacation? Please share!

It does appear that now is a good time to post!

Hey @beeyou, the reason is simple: The STEEM price is below $1. See http://steem.supply/rewards for a detailed explanation.
The post values shown on Steemit/Busy/... are in STU, while the payouts are in STEEM and SP - these are different units/assets with different values.

Thank you @crokkon! I hadn't even noticed what @beeyou did, but by the end of her post, I had all the same questions :)

Beat me to it :-D But does that mean 100% rewards is worth using now?

:D
on 100%: no, not really, but mainly because there is no SBD but only STEEM paid out a.t.m.

If you plan to power-up anyway, it currently makes no difference if you immediately get in in SP, or half-SP half-STEEM because they are "worth" the same.
If SBD is paid out and SBD > $1, then you could buy more STEEM from SBD than what you would have got from 100% SP... uh, seems complicated reading my own text - is this clear?!

No, that was really helpful! I just hope I remember it cause I think I knew that before and forgot

tsk tsk i would have thought you would have known that haha jk!! Be well!

It's clear to me! Thanks again :)

I had an inkling it was related to STU after I made the post. I remember having the conversation once with @eonwarped on the dust threshold value and difference between displayed STU and actual payout. Just saw you also have a recent utopian post out on the dust threshold.

I appreciate you stopping by with the reason @crokkon! I usually don’t look at payout so thought I had missed something. Will do some reading on the detailed explanation. Thank you!

Hang on - so if we want a higher value pay out (all paid in sp) we change our rewards to entirely SP?

Is that the short of it?

I've been wondering if it's worth just switching to 100% SP reward ever since steem dollars stopped printing.

Has taskmaster ever replied to one of your comments btw?

I've been wondering if it's worth just switching to 100% SP reward ever since steem dollars stopped printing.

It doesn't make a difference. Since SP and STEEM as "worth the same", you end up with the same amount of SP if you chose 100% SP in the first place, or get half of it as STEEM and power this up.

OK - thanks for the clarification.

I quite like having a little liquid steem to play with tbh!

I saw that crokkon responded already @revisesociology. Short of it is ‘post more’ (if you can). The actual reward payout is more than the STU amount displayed on the post earning. Subject to change of course: dependent on the price feed and other logic used to convert STU to STEEM/SP at payout.

From my understanding in reading crokkon’s comment, there is no difference in author reward with the 50/50 or 100% payout. This is due to the payout being in STEEM/SP.

I haven’t made a comment on taskmaster’s posts in some time since life has been so busy. You really have to take time to read, think, and make a thoughtful comment on one of his posts. He did respond back when I made comments a couple months back. Outdated info though. 🙂

OK thanks for the detailed reply.

Hmm.. post more - maybe my setting up a second account to do more short form posting was a good idea then.

I kind of prefer a slow and steady pace on here for this axxount

Good to know viz the later - I'd just noticed a lot if well thought out comments recently getting no recognition, which makes me wonder whether I should bother...

My solution is to go for response posts where he's concerned. Much less ignorable those!

Anyway. Bed time.

Night!

I have my personal account but still can’t find time to do short-form posting. Many dapps out there; perhaps one day I will find one to try. Some people are testing appics so that could be one to use soon.

Tbh, I don’t know how he could possibly manage that many posts and comments in a day. I have a hard time responding to all my comments and my post count is nowhere near his. He is very knowledgeable and I do enjoy reading his posts when I have the time.

Good night!

Yes time, or lack if it is a problem. You have to be selective on here....

I like self-tracking.... my new account 'self-track' will be used for my actifit posts on a daily basis...no one wants ro see that ever day on a main account.

I'd be like that annoying friend on Facebook posting 5.times.a.day about their kids minor achievements.

Is Taskmaster knowledgeable? He has strong opnions, but his lack of response to some questioning xomments recently suggests he's incabable of defending his views.

Posted using Partiko Android

I see actifit posts but not active enough to use it, lol. Maybe one day!

You don’t want to be part of the selfie and ‘here is my lunch’ generation as on FB? 😁

He is informed of happenings, more so than I am. I agree on strong opinions but also see his passion. I am out of the loop on most things; it is nice to read on ‘current events’ of the Steem blockchain when I have the time to read his posts. His posts are usually not the kind you skim through, at least not for me. I have to make time to read, therefore, haven’t made any thoughtful comments there.

I would hope he goes back to engaging his followers. I remember him giving generous upvotes and commenting back, back in the days. It is hard to find time for both posting and commenting, imo. It’s usually one or the other for me. Throw discord into it too...forget it. Challenging to be on top of it all!

Yes - defo limited use of actifit for me.

I thought he used to reply... I was just wondering if I mis remembered that.

Maybe he's just busier with life these days.

So, if I get it right: on some posts the author reward is more than the post earnings, and on other mosts it's the other way around?
Now I'm curious...

Posted using Partiko Android

I think it is related to posts with recent payouts. I checked other accts and all have the same results. Anything recently paid (maybe in the past 24 hours) are earning higher rewards.

I checked someone else’s post with a reward from 3 days ago and the reward was less; similar to the Tim Cliff post from this acct.

Stopped researching since it’s past my bedtime. Let me know if you find out anything @simplymike!

Reasoning explained by @crokkon. 🙂

Informative post

Thanks for bringing this up @beeyou; and yes, I have it all sorted out (as much as my brain allows haha) by crokkon :)

Glad it didn’t confuse you Lynn. I haven’t had a chance to comment on any of your recent posts but caught a couple. I’m sorry about your fiend passing away. I do remember your post on hearing the news back in the NRD days. It is comforting to have a goodbye, even if in the dream (spiritual?) realm.

Thank you @beeyou, and no worries ... I find it impossible anymore to connect with everyone all of the time :)

It is comforting to have a goodbye, even if in the dream (spiritual?) realm.

It definitely was!
