Settled companies starting to use Steemit

Today I was scrolling through my list of followers and found something interesting.
A new follower called @nytimes.com.
So I checked it out. It's a relative new account and they follow a whopping 58k+ users.
It seems to be a legit account and be the real NY Times.

Is this the new way of spreading news or the new way of gathering news?

For me, reading a dead tree is something that has no value anymore. Everything in the news is nowadays already readable in the internet and printing it to read it when it is a day old makes sometimes the news obsolete.

On the other side we've got the journalists. What does it mean to be a journalist today. In my opinion many of them do just copy-paste content and present it as their own work.
In the past (read: pre-internet era) journalism was a hard job. Going out on the streets and gather the news, writing a good and original story and stick to the newspaper's opinion.
That's something I miss on the internet so this might be interesting to see what @nytimes.com will do. For now they only posted some videos.

Enough about news and journalism.
My point of the whole story is that this may be the start of a new era on Steemit.
If big (multinational) companies roll in there must be something going on.
Is it the money or is it to reach out to the users?

For now it seems to me that it can head into a positive direction because Steemit get more attention and will eventually attract new users.
Only the future can tell us where this is going.
