A Message To New Users on Steemit
Welcome! Welcome to this community, where we pay for the time you spend here. You might be a new user with a low reputation and almost no Steem or Steempower, and if you were lucky you made more than 2 $. The thing is that if you engage in the community by commenting and upvoting, you will get noticed and people will start following you. If you want to see how much succes you can have by simply commenting and engaging with the community, see below.
The Road to Steemlightment
Once upon a time I joined Steemit completely unaware of what it actually was. I was annoyed that I didn't make any money, didn't get views and didn't get a bigger following. I was getting a few followers now and then, until I took the buddha approach. I sat under a tree for 40 days. Most of the time in front my computer, but at least it was under a tree. A chopped up tree made into a house. Okay..There is nothing with a tree in my story, other than that I once saw one. So I sat inside my room in front of my computer for 40 days. Like with Buddha, people would stop by now and then and say stuff like "Take a shower, dude.", "Give me back my computer!" and stuff like that. On the road to Steemlightment I had a few peaks. Some people would start following me, but I wasn't able to understand why, so I kept sitting in my room for many more days. Until the day arrived. A blurred version of Donald Trump appeared in my head and said to me "Do great commenting, great engaging, and that's how you will build a great wall between Facebook and Steemit" 
So I did. I started doing great engaging, great commenting and great upvoting and my result were great. I started the 6th of May. Check the chart above and judge yourself if it worked.
I am Increasing My Followers Now!
Here is a picture of the new posts in life. We have @bullishmoney who is an STEEMaholic. I'm glad to know that, just keep drinking that STEEM juice. @adelja who wrote a beautiful poem. @len.george who is posting his pictures from his trip to Fiji back in the days. @radlerjan is posting about how gamers have died after gaming for weeks without pausing. What? @sardrt doing a popular thing steemit. Sharing pictures. Normally I don't look at these posts, but these pictures are really good!!
Eleven posts have been made in the last five minutes with the tag "life". And we are only in the Beta with a few thousand users. Holy Buddha that is a lot. Imagine how lost your post can get if you don't have the same following Buddha ended up having. You will not be seen, it as simple as that. You posts will be as lost as Donald Trump is in the White House. As lost as Bear Grylls in a Metropolis. As lost as I just got writing this post. Back to the point!
If you don't increase your followers before Steemit gets too popular your posts might just vanish into the black hole of Steemit
Don't stress about it though. If you can gain five followers a day. That is more than possible! Then you would gain 150 followers per month. That is a lot!
Don't remember to create quality original content!
Be original, be yourself, post about stuff that interest you! I won't read your stuff if you post about something that don't interest you. Believe, I did that before my Steemlightment.

No not yet, but I'm very interested and am also planning to do it soon. I think it will be an eye opening experience
I think so too. I am planning to do it this year. Everybody I know who have done it loved it, but also found it very difficult. I will let you know if I do it, and then make a post about it. Absolutely! I truly believe that Steemit has the potential to be HUGE! And this new way of sharing and potentially earning money could really change the life of content creators. The advantage we have now, as relatively young Steemers, is undeniable and it would be foolish not to use this head start!
Totally agree! Imagine the life of artists. A life of an artist without a third party, where he could just post his art online and earn his well deserved money.

Steemit strategies can be duplicated...it just means paying attention to all the details that go into writing a successful post, than working to interact with as many Steemers as you can and sharing what you know.
We are always juggling:
creating intriguing, original content;
curating the work of others by reading their work and upvoting material that you like;
and relationship building by making new friends as you go. :)

I want you to make one small change in your text please...
Your 3rd last heading, should read: "DO Remember to create original content".
There is a very good reason for this and it is worthy of another post...
If you don't use original content...even if you've taken work that you created and posted on the net from another website or blog you can become marked as a plagiarist. Steemit has bots that crawl the web, constantly matching text and photos. Being labelled for plagerism is the quickest way to get flagged, downvoted and generally ostracized from the Steemit community. I have seen it ruin people in less than 24 hours who made this mistake. They can never really recover their reputation again and the consequences are devastating. :)
As a minnow, if I were to post a link to someones article and added original content to it, as in commenting on something in the article, etc.. Is that considered plagiarism ?

If you are ever in doubt about the material you are sharing with someone or on a post, simple state your source. I got this link from: xyz or, this video was posted by: Xxy on Youtube and the date that it was uploaded.
Always site your source and you won't run into trouble. :)
Thanks for the info. As I read the posts of others I am seeing the trend of original content, with pics and then sources and further reading added at the end. No all I have to do is figure out the formatting. Currently researching .
Yes, lots of people will list all their sources at the end of their posts with simple links directly to them.
