If you're not online 24/7 on steemit you will miss your mentions in posts. We have a tab to see "comments", "replies", "rewards" and "blog", but no tab for mentions. You will find your mentions, but only if you're mentioned in a comment, but it seems like there is no place to find your mentions. As for now, you can use this website made by @furion. I wonder if he will see this.
Make a mention tab just beside replies, and we are good to go
I think it would be a good feature to have so we can reward those users who are trying to promote us. It's a great way for users to interact, to keep being updated in certain contests or projects. As for now, projects with a great value for the platform are probably missing out on rewards due to users can't see their mentionings.

i guess it is being held back as it will require a pretty hefty lookup on the blockchain causing a lot of strain on servers...

no biggie! I am not 100% sure if that's what's holding the feature back... but to implement it will certainly require a search on post content and that will be demanding. Much more demanding thank searching for "author" or "postID" etc...
Someone mentioned it would take quite a lot to change it. Something to do with the blockchain.
I guess I am trying to say the same thing :P
