A week on Steemit: Minnow life lessons learned on Steemit
I was introduced to Steemit a week back and since then the journey have been very new. I learned a lot about many things that made me understand how NOT updated I am about the technological development. These are few points I learned about Steemit in my first week on Steemit.
1. One account, multiple app sign in-s.
Steemit account once approved gives access to many different applications such as, D-tube, D-live and more. This is a cool feature considering the fact you have to remember only one password. Well speaking of passwords, not remember the password, keep the password safe I must say on Steemit since the password is not your usual kind of password here. All theses apps are great in terms of its functions and competitiveness to the existing similar applications. That makes steemit a great site to start your blogs.
2. Transparency
Were you ever curious about how much your favouritye blogger or vlogger makes from one post? Then Steemit gives you a definite number for each and every post, profile and every other detail. The transparency like that makes you understand a lot about how much each post are worth, even the reputation of the author. That is something no other platform provides.
3. People and the bots
My follower list is made up majority of bots than humans I believe. The excitement of having 100 followers was ephemeral knowing they are not all people who are interested in the content I make. Most of them are accounts with the purpose of growing your blog/channel/profile. Try to interact with one and you will understand. Which makes up the next point.
4. Spams and auto generated replies do exist!
Before joining Steemit I read everywhere that Steemit has the flagging option to eliminate spam and copy pasted comments. So, I was expecting a clean and zero fault blog site with comments and replies from spammers. My first post and boom! That myth is broken, broken into many pieces with the next few posts. The replies to my posts were filled with auto generated comments mostly to upvote back or follow back or even to send few bucks to join the communities in order to boost the channel.
5. Steem and Steem power is everything!
Did you hear everyone saying "you'll be rewarded for your upvotes and comments and replies and everything you do on Steemit" ? Well, with your first post itself you'll realize that the most of the people following you are not here for your content but just to get upvoted for their comment or in someway benefit reward wise. This is disheartening after you spend a decent amount of time making the content of the blog. But don't worry, there are good people out there who actually reads and then react. Its just that you and your posts have to reach them. So keep on doing what you love doing on the Steemit.
6. Decentralization and the freedom of expression
Decentralization helps to upload your content crossing that barrier of censorship. Just put the tag of NSFW and you are good to go to post any art work of yours. The option to flag a content is something that helps to keep those annoying posts away. This not only gives the creator the freedom of expression but also gives the reader power to decide on what to read and how to react on the post.
7. Finding that notification bell
Did you also search for a notfication bar after joining steemit? Well, I did that and finally found a solution to the problem. "e-steem" is an android app that helps you to keep up with the notifications on new votes, comments, mentions etc...
8. Hashtags and its relevancy
Other saturated social media has been crowded with the hashtags. It is nearly impossible to find your content even if it is relevant and serves the correct information on a topic. On steemit, categorization is done perfectly well that your post and your desired topics can be chosen clearly and displays the relevant content. That is an amazing feature.
9. Lack of contact from authority
Not knowing whom to contact for an issue is con for steemit. Right from the approval period, you are not in contact with the officials or there is no customer care dedicated to clear your queries. That is a problem but there are several tutorial posts available to solve most of the problems and that kinda solves the problem. On that note, I even started to help by posting how to posts to help with the little knowledge I have.
10. Everything is fine
There are things that could be better in the platform, there are many things I wished to be available here. But I clearly love the whole platform. It is a wonderful place to keep all your creative skills at one place. Be it your blogs, videos or other work, Steemit is an excellent place to exhibit all of them in one page. Therefore, at the end of the day everything is fine here and hope is there it is going to get better!
Theses are the few points I have learned from my first few days of Steemit minnow life.
