The Secret Weapon of Steemit or why Facebook is losing points...
Since I am on Steemit I noticed that I don’t go to the Facebook anymore.
Wasn’t it the same for you when you just started your Steemian life?
Well, I can’t say that I've ever been a very active user of social networks. I like Pinterest and Instagram for photos, pictures and inspiration, I use Facebook to chat with friends and I have there some professional contacts I’m connected with.
Like a lot of us, I also go scrolling on Facebook 2 or 3 times a day, just looking through news and reading comments.
Or I should say I used to. Because since I’m on Steemit, I almost don’t go there.
Why? 🤔
Because Steemit is new for me, because I’m meeting new people and I’m discovering a new reality. And moreover I can earn some money. A human being always choose the most interesting and the most profitable, right? Let’s be honest, it’s life.
BUT...☝️
...there’s something else. Steemit is a non aggressive environment. There's no bad language in comments and political disputes. The environment where the quality and the friendly attitude count (in every sense of the word). 🤑
Rules of the platform make people being more careful with what they are publishing and how they are reacting to other people’s postings. Nobody wants to get flagged or to write something he will regret tomorrow because it will stay here spoiling his reputation and making him feeling ashamed. OK, there is a purely practical reason why people on Steemit take care about their reputation, but finally these rules make us better!
I’m probably telling obvious things now but it looks like we are living an important moment in the History of the Internet. Instead of the total liberty to be nice or mad with anyone we meet virtually, there comes the time when we are free to be good with each other… or not to be at all. When years ago people got access to the whole world, they got this liberty to tell anything to anyone, to tell things they would never tell if the person was seated in front of us… It’s easy to be aggressive and violent hiding behind the screen of your laptop.
Personally, I’m a very peaceful person so I don’t take part in disputes and I don’t leave bad comments on forums or on Facebook. But even scrolling through those left by other users can make me feel uncomfortable. I never thought about it that way since today when I suddenly compared how I felt after surfing on Steemit and after scrolling through Facebook.
After Facebook I think that the world is bad, people are irritated, life is getting worse every day.
After Steemit I believe that there are plenty of talented people who are making right now the future of our planet with art and science and new technologies.
I definitely prefer the second feeling.
It doesn’t mean that I choose an escape from the reality. We all have our everyday reality with our family issues, troubles at work, bad government, traffic jams…
Here on Steemit it is not about wearing pink glasses and stay away from the real world.
It’s just about focusing on good things and sharing the best of ourselves.
And you, don't you have this sensation of being a part of the social network of tomorrow?😜
I had already quit Facebook before I started here, but yes, I agree with you, it's a very negative place. I don't enter into arguments either, just because it's such a waste of energy, nothing positive comes from having an argument on the internet.
Many of the posts on Steemit seem much more informative and thought out. I've seen very little narcissism here (pointless selfies, dinner plate photos). Even the discussions on politics are much more polite here, rather than the shouting, mud slinging and the "everyone I don't like is literally Hitler" environment of Facebook. Those other social networks made me doubt humanity.
What really drove me off Facebook was the spying, lack of privacy and censorship. If you use FB you are being both spied on and lied to, it's a dreadful place.
But who cares, forget about FB, we have something so much better now. I wonder if Steemit might just be the FB killer, I sense a snowball growing here, and once a critical mass of people move over here the network effect will bring even more people.
Steem on !
Thank you for your comment. fB killer, haha. 👍😄
We aren't censored here either! you don't want to know how many posts I have had pulled and days I've been banned for my opinions on things. (They didn't match the mob mentality so therefore I was silenced) I use facebook as a free photo storage solution and to message myself my crypto addresses ;-)
I think a lot of people refuse facebook after discovering steemit. Now I us it only as messenger:)
Yeah, me too now, and only when I can't messaging by whatsapp or telegram))
