Don’t Make Your Country Look Poor Just For Upvotes.

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I’ve been on Steemit for approximately five months now and I’ve noticed somethings that bothered me. It’s been going on ever since I joined and I feel it’s high time someone addressed these pertinent issues.

Some Steemians and mostly Africans have the habit of making their countries look poor and economically unstable just to gain upvotes from whales. This issue botheres me so much. It’s undoubtedly true that some part of Africa is facing challenges economically and in matters concerning good management. However, I am of the opinion that, consistently addressing such issues here on steem just to gain money is unnecessary and absolutely uncalled for.

I’m a Ghanaian which means I’m from Ghana and I’ve noticed this habit of fellow Ghanaian Steemians painting a bad image about this country just for some whales to sympathize with.

To me, Ghana is far from being a wretched or poor country because we are better off than others, truth be told. I personally feel it would be better addressing our achievements and the good things of this country instead of constantly highlighting our flaws. It’s not just in Ghana this is happening, it’s happening all over even beyond Africa.

I believe that, a wind of change ought to blow out the self pity that has woven itself into the fabric of the African society. Fellow steemians, let us steer this wind towards ourselves and keep the flag of our motherland flying high.
Thank you. If there’s anything you’d like to share, let’s talk about it in the comments.

It's true, sad and must be stopped. Now how do we do it @andrekweku?

Best we can do is steer ourselves from making such posts. Let’s concentrate on the positive to paint a better image for Ghana on Steemit.

I believe we have a solution then. Thanks for bringing this issue up but do not worry too much about this. Know people will always be who they want to be no matter what. Let's do our best to keeping doing what's right so the newbies can follow in our footsteps.

Yeah most definitely. So long as I’ve now addressed it, I feel fine. Hope it reminds others to be on the right path.

You are right on point. Even though I haven't been here for long, I've observed that behaviour. Thank you for making a post about it. Yes, Africans do have problems, but it's not as terrible as some of our brothers and sisters are making it seem. I think it is completely selfish to tarnish a country's reputation in the name of gaining upvotes and recognition. That behaviour is appalling. It must stop.

Yeah bro. It’s high time we put an end to that behavior. Thanks for the comment.

I knew it was actually that bad over there! Lol I’m just kidding. I hear you but maybe it’s a matter of prespective and the whales are just trying to help out fellow steemians

Yh I get you but some over do it.

better idea: don't tell me what to do because you want something from me.

😂 much better.

okay nice boss

well said bro, thank you @andrekweku

Thanks bro. I appreciate.

I have noticed the same thing and have at times noticed my self upvoting and following certain Steemians because they come from a disadvantaged region. It took tremendous courage for you to out your peers in this manner. Well said.

Yh chale. These things dey bore me.

True son of the nation. Thanks for the enlightenment.

You welcome man.

Great post this. Hit the nail right on the head. But as writers it is out duty to paint this that normalcy cannnot pain. Yes sometimes it may get out of hand but we are fallible mistakes. I am especially against the culture of painting Africa black on a regular basis but if something needs pointing out...it must be done.
However Africa is a richly bright continent and no amount of ignominity will change that.
Thanks for pointing it out tho.

Quite the exact. But persistently addresses the negatives draws bad attention to Ghana.
