Do you REALIZE how Steemit IS STRANGE now? without BOTS and TRAILS?
Look in your FEED deeply: steemit celebrities and well known authors now make much less money, around $2-10 in a first 30 minutes instead of $20-100 and the difference is because upvoted bots don't work.
That mean those $2-10 are their real payouts from people who really read them and vote.
Open HOT and check amounts under posts - they decreased dramatically too.
Now we can see THE REAL STEEMIT and real costs for posts from real people but not bubbles from bots and, finally, now we can make curation money while bots and all trails are down.
So, Go to curate your favorite authors because even a tiny upvote is a matter now!
Also, all our newcomers don't get greetings from bots. Go there, upvote and greet our new Steemit community members!

It's funny, but whaleshares channel now discusses how to reanimate their bot but not how to go and curate posts manually.

Steemit's API were down.
For me, it's couldn't relate to Bitcoin HF
I couldn't see how either, but the timing is interesting. As if some people pulled back to see what would happen to prices of all coins, not just BTC.
Bitcoin seems to be a tide, on top of which the other coins act as boats.
Why are these bots even allowed it seems wrong somehow and could possibly ruin Steemit people should vote for people not programs, cheers mike

So I suspect this migration didn't cause this problem.

Could be. I do not know much about Whale experiments.
Not knowing the exact day/time of said migration makes it hard to pin-point. Yet I do know if any app/site API was not reconfigured to reflect the change of DNS Server info etc. the migration presents then they are trying to connect to the old IPs (which simply will not function). IMO any way.
Honestly I wish it was always like this. Bots and social media shouldn't be mixed imho
