ADSactly Personal - The Side Effects of Being Addicted to STEEM
ADSactly Personal: The Side Effects of Being Addicted to STEEM
source
We are all on a journey, and becoming addicted to STEEM is something a lot of us have in common but have you found that these things happen too?
(I choose the opening picture because its like we can see the whole world with STEEM and sometimes it might be seen as scary.)
You End up Doing Things You’d Never Imagined…
You might start out just typing up articles to post on Steemit, but then you discover all the apps, like Dtube, Dlive, Dsound, the meme ones and all the countless others that will and are being developed. When you find Dapps you realise that there is so much more to STEEM, it is somewhere we can all air our talents whatever they may be.
I have had a go at making videos, reading my poetry out, even read out some erotic content too in brave moment for Dsound and also turned my hand to making a meme or two. A couple of them actually turned out to be quite funny, this is one of my personal favourites:
One thing I have a secret desire to be is a comedian, but I am not so great at coming up with jokes on the spot to be a stand up, let alone remembering them, but if I ever wanted to have a go, the platform is here and I could write and prepare something that could bomb, or it could be my next career move, who knows. Here on STEEM, you can live with no regrets.
With so opportunities here, the ideas could end up well being endless!
I’d never thought that I would help judge a googly eyes contest, drop everything for the chance of winning some whale shares in a lottery or have my society driven thoughts to be challenged so much - it has been nothing short of an amazing journey that is still ongoing.
You Discover the World of Discord
I have to admit that I was a bit of a latecomer to discord, as I am really shy and quite frankly the thought terrified me. In fact, some of the larger discord groups still do (not ADSactly though), but I have found some awesome friends and projects to support. They might not have been all the best projects or people to support, but you live and learn.
It has been a tough year, which in the offline world has left me with few people to turn to and talk to, but STEEM and discord have really kept me going in terms of earning a living and the community, which without I would be isolated and depressed.
The saying is definitely true - come for the money and stay for the community, although here you can have your cake and eat it, as it can become a place of work and play, as long as you have the right balance.

And now the doors of Discord have opened even wider, with people joining in on hangouts, and presenting their posts and the chance to interact verbally just brings a whole new dimension of getting to know one another and becoming a worldwide community of firm friends.
You Narrowly Avert Kitchen Disasters
Let’s put this into context first, I have been on Steemit 18 months now and the number of times that these kinds of cooking incidents have happened less than the number of my fingers, so it’s not all the time.
But, dinner never seems to be as bang on at 5 pm as it used to, as I get distracted not so much by STEEM, but by Discord too. I am not only late getting dinner but sometimes, I have forgotten that there are things on the hob, or in the oven…
There have been a few burnt chips and fish finger incidents, but not so burned that they caught fire (ahem).
That has only happened once and in my defence I only stepped away from the kitchen for two minutes, at least I think it was only two minutes.
It was meant to be an easy meal, as I was just warming up yesterday’s curry, but 2ish minutes later the fire alarm went off.
The kids dived into their bedrooms under the covers (not the best way to deal with a fire alarm I know, we have done mock evacuations since) and I went into the kitchen to discover the wok on fire, just a little bit.
It was easy to put out, with a damp tea cloth, but alas the curry was ruined and I had to start a whole new meal from scratch. But now I’m more careful, or if I’m in mid-conversation, I take the computer into the kitchen with me.
Sometimes I even just tell people I will be away from the keyboard for a little while.
I think it also impairs the thinking a little bit too, I forgot to put a baking tray right under the pizza…
Thank you for reading and I’d love to read about the side effects STEEM is having on your life in the comments :)

Very good post @adsactly, I think, very many people in this world now who are addicted to STEEM, from the young to the old, Steemit is a project that is very helpful to all the people in this world, with the Steemit already reduce the number of unemployed you are in this world. Because here we can work with the expertise we have, because there are still many projects available in Steemit as you say there are Dlive, Dtube, Dsound, Dmania and other projects.
With such a project it is very helpful to all of us, especially for people who do not have Steempower, so we can work and can show our talents for the projects provided by Steemit. Therefore very many people in this world are addicted to STEEM, and even they forget to do some other work. Because all are very busy with the work of Steemit, I am very grateful with the existence of Steemit, this can reduce the suffering of my life is very difficult, because I am very hard to make money, with Steemit, I can help my parents from the results STEEM. Although not many, but very helpful.
I am very grateful to Ned for creating this Steemit project, because thanks to him is very much helping people in this world. I'm sure, Steemit will grow for the future, because we see, very many people support Steemit, and Crypto will be number one in the world. Thanks for sharing @adsactly. And hopefully you will be more successful to work. And hopefully you have a beautiful day...:)
Can’t forget to do other work, maybe I’m not addicted yet ?
It can certainly be used for good. There is so much positvity that can come out of STEEM and it is good to remember that when there is al lot of other stuff going on.
Thanks @hopehuggs I'm glad you want to add my comment this. With STEEM, it helps a lot of people in this world, and I hope that STEEM will continue to grow and be more successful for the future.,,,
Very nicely written @hopehuggs!
Discord is what steemit platform completed. I always thought there must be easier way to communicate between each other than on steemit where you comment on post and the specific subject only. Well Discord it is! I've been blogging on Steemit for about six months. I'm a 'minnow', trying to find my place in this “as of now” beautiful community. I have never signed up for social platforms such as “Facewhat”. When I found out about Steemit platform, I knew it was different. I knew it was something I would love to be part of and still am. I love Steemit, because there is so many good and creative souls I met here. And now I can almost call myself an addict of steemit community. I’m glad to be able to read @adsactly’s contents, it’s always refreshing to read different short stories, reviews and travel experiences. That’s why @adsactly became one of my favorite steemiens and one of my witnesses.
I don't remember exactly how I finally ended up stumbling onto Discord, but I'm glad I did. I spent at least 6 months conversing in the comments on Steemit and then I discovered Discord and with it some amazing new friends and communities to support.
True, steem can definitely become addictive, I've also found myself forgetting to eat(or do anything else) coz I'm reading blogs and just exploring steem in general. It can be fun but can also act as a drug if we're not careful. The problem it's just so easy to get hooked.
As for discord tho I'm not as active as I should be and will have to work on that.
Cheers for the awesome well writen post! Not for awakening my hunger tho :)
Yes, it is suddenly time to pick up the kids and I realise that I've not eaten all day.
And I've only been 5 minutes late to pick up the kids twice.
Ahahahahaha. So it's not just me?
My favorite trick is when I am brewing a gallon of tea. It takes 3 or so minutes per pot so I'll just sit down to look at one post. 2 hours later my tea has a nasty scum formed on top and needs to be strained before I can even think about putting it in the bottle.
Thanks for another great post, Hope!
The tea I have at the moment is not too bad cold, as long as its full of sugar. Some things do end up getting done rather last minute, like the washing when I realise the weekend has disappeared and there are no clean school clothes.
Hi @adsactly Your post is excellent. Thank you so much for letting us pick your brain.
I thing that Steemit can provide an excellent platform for supporting and expanding the development, should include developing skills which are of importance in the expanding knowledge-based society. Innovation, spurred by talent, will determine success, and the spirit and motivation propelle the creativity.
Have a nice Sunday. A hug
It is a most excellent place for development and creativeness.
Hi @hopehuggs Exactly. Steemit is a site to facilitate networking on initiatives, projects and actions. On the other hand, good communications and creativeness is a two-way process and Steemit is a great way to achieve it.
The great philosopher John Dewey said: “Art is not the possession of the few who are recognized writers, painters, musicians; it is the authentic expression of any and all individuality. Those who have the gift of creative expression in unusually large measure disclose the meaning of the individuality of others to those others. In participating in the work of art, they become artists in their activity. They learn to know and honor individuality in whatever form it appears. The fountains of creative activity are discovered and released. The free individuality which is the source of art is also the final source of creative development in time”.
Thank you, I wish you much happiness and success.
The good news is that not every addiction is a bad thing. I find the picture of the AA batteries and the analogy you pulled with alcohol anonymous super hilarious. For someone that had seen thousands of meme, I just have not come across this one. You have what it takes to be a stand up comic. Good job here ✌️
Maybe not the stand up part, but I will one day prepare something on video or audio to test out if I am just wierd, or actually funny sometimes.
Weird could be funny too :)
steemit is great how can not be addicted to it
I think, I am addicted too,but I am loving it.Anyway, very cool post.Nice writing sir, keep it up.
As addictions go, it's not a bad one to have.

I admit that we are all addicted to STEEM, almost everytime I open my smartphone then open it, post, comment, or even just read some posts that I find interesting,
We all realize that studying this steemit will not last, because the steemit is very broad, like a sea that is not exhausted at the point of view. The more we learn it the more we realize that what we know is just a little ..
That is pulling him steemit for me, there is always something new to learn ..
Thank you for sharing @adsactly, a very inspirational post
It is huge. There is so much to it. It is best to take it a bitesize piece at a time and study what others are doing. The first thing I check every morning is Discord, then Steemit, then at some point during the day I might remember Facebook if it's lucky.
