STEEMIT IRON CHEF 2018 : New Season meaning NEW CONCEPTS!!! Check out the new format of your most favorite cooking contest!
Greetings of the day all my Steemit friends!
So voila, the 2018 Steemit Iron Chef launch is just behind the doors...The break for couple of days has really been very important as I got the necessary time to finalize all details for this new season! It took me longer to do everything as I have been very busy in my bistro too!
And finally today I am here to present the new format of SIC!
Before starting, I would like to thank everyone who gave some great ideas in my previous 2 posts on the subject! It is impossible to accommodate all the suggestions, but I did manage to include couple of them!
STEEMIT IRON CHEF 2018
- Steemit Iron Chef 2018 will start on the 12th of January 2018.
- The contest will be divided into 3 ACTS, so we will have 3 grand winner at the end of each act. Each act will consist of 15 weeks of competition!
And after each act there will be a break of a week!
Theme of the weeks
Same as last year, there will be one mysterious product that I will choose each week for the contestants to work on! This is a trademark of SIC!
But wait...
From time to time I will add some special rounds with special themes that I will only reveal on the starting of the rounds! The winners will be awarded with some extra bonus points which can be great for the league...expect some great challenges coming up for you my friends!
Steemit Iron Chef 2018 League
Same as the past edition, there will be a league but which will run for 15 weeks on each round this time! So basically there will be 3 leagues that will be contested this year.
On the start of each new league, all points are brought back to zero.
For those who are not too familiar with the SIC league, let me briefly explain what it is and how it is run!
Each week all the contestants who enter the contest with a valid entry are awarded with points and bonus points if they are among the winners! These points are given on top of the usual weekly prizes!
You can win 20 bonus points if you make a donation/contribution in the wallet of @steemit-ironchef to grow the reward pool further!
These points are added each week and all the contestants are classified on a league. They are ranked based on the total of points they have received!
Last year I rewarded the top 20 contestants on the league and this time....all contestants who have participated at least once with a valid entry will receive a percentage of the big reward pool that I collect from the wallet of @steemit-ironchef!
- The winner of the league will win 20% of the big reward pool
- 2nd placed contestant will win 10% of the big reward pool
- The 3rd place will win 5% of the big reward pool
- From 4th to 10th will win 3%
- From 11th to 20th will win 2%
- And from 21st to 100th will win 1%
The pool shared with the winners in 2017 was 1005 STEEM!
Weekly Prizes
As mentioned some days back, the weekly prizes have been finalized. I have not received any further sponsor for the contest.
To receive the voiceshares, skillcoins and trophy token, kindly open an openledger account and let me know your address so that I can transfer your winnings should you be among the winners!
JUDGE
I have read all the suggestions, but sorry guys, I will be again the sole judge of SIC 2018. My main reason is that I don't want to complicate things. Chasing the weekly judges can be a real pain sometimes...! Better I be the judge as I will plan this contest on my schedule, even I will be late in announcing the results, I will do it with the best way possible.
The sheet I use to judge is the below for you to have an idea. Each contestants are evaluated on a separate sheet.
Just for information I have been working in the culinary field for nearly 15 years with experience as Executive Chef in two 5-stars hotel in Mauritius.
I have organized many contests in the past, but this is my first online one and I am happy so far with the response.
Rules and Regulations
The rules and regulations have been updated and here is what is needed to have a valid entry in the contest.
- Create a post and title your entry 'Steemit Iron Chef 2017 #01 : Name of your dish'
- Make either a starter or main course or dessert with the product chosen.
- Two entries per person is allowed. - Make sure to use #steemit-ironchef tag in any order you wish, so that I don't miss your entry!
- Only new recipes will be accepted, so I need at least one photo with your name and date on it.
- I don't need to see your step by step preparations/recipes, just make the list of the products used, describe your dish and add some photos to get my attention! Make it sweet and simple!!!
- Post a link of your entry here on this post and also share your entry on our discord channel - https://discord.gg/R3R26k8 to get some more support from the people there!
Any participant not following these simple rules will be considered a non validate entry.
Be the most creative , inventive and refined possible, you'll win a lot of points...
So here we are with the different changes that are finalized for SIC 2018! If anything is not clear, please let me know, I'll assist for sure.
To conclude I am confirming that the time frame to submit entries will be extended, see tomorrow's first round post for more!
I hope you are all ready for this big launch!
Wishing you all a very wonderful end/start of the day!

Looking forward to your entries in the contest my friend.
Wish you a wonderful day ahead.
Your doing a great job, the project is well planned. keep it up, i wish all the contestants good luck.
I am jus hoping that the contest becomes as successful as the first season.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
looking forward to start again and I like the new concept as close to the original as possible !
I am eager to restart discovering your amazing entries again.
This season will be full of surprises, I hope you'll have a great time again.
Thanks for showing us your evaluation sheet! Are you going to give us the earned subscores each week? I have a question about that though -- what if you think it's pretty and creative and theme-appropriate and the text and photos are good, but you just doubt that it actually tastes good? How does that get reflected in your grading instrument?
I don't share the evaluation sheets as my post will be too long and not looking nice! But if anyone is interested in getting their sheet, just send me a message and i'll forward same!
With my 15 years of experience in world's best restaurants and hotels, I can assure you that I know what works together and what not!
I have created Steemit Iron Chef to help out the foodies community growing up and making original great posts so that they are noticed on the platform!
Anyway, if you check out the results of each round of SIC 2017, all winning entries absolutely merits their wins!
Oh, I hope it didn't sound like I was doubting you! In grad-school, I studied assessment and evaluation (educational testing and psychometry). That was a long time ago and I don't work in that field, but I've maintained an ongoing interest in assessment instruments and how people in different fields set up tools like that.
So really, I was more like pointing out that the worksheet you showed us doesn't seem to account for the situation I described. Like, if you found yourself judging something that's technically great in all those aspects, but you don't think it would really work taste-wise, what would you do? Would you feel obliged to give it a higher score than you would if you were tasting it? It's more like a technical interest in how one judges our dishes when you don't have access to the dish for tasting.
I'm very sorry if it sounded like I was attacking your professional credentials!
