My name is Mark Gacoka and I am here to show you 10 great ways that you can get more followers on Steemit platform. I hope you find my tips useful and I can assure you: follow this 10 steps and you are on your way to thousands of followers!

1. Share to all your previous social channels

I had to start with the boring ones first. Sorry! Be it Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, you could invite people to Steemit or share your posts outside of Steemit. There are a couple of Reddit threads that you could post your content specifically for Steemers. Sub-reddits such as r/steemit could prove a great platform for you to share what you o and links to your Steemit account.

Orcas (big whales) such as @jerrybanfield  have made a lot of followers through social platforms such as YouTube and Reddit. He has also invited a large fan-base, most of whom have followed his account.

2. The infamous #introduceyourself tag. 

Making use of the #introduceyourself tag is by far the most efficient way to gain more followers.  Many whales like to roam around this tag and through some simple steps, you could use it to your advantage.

Steemers are generally very welcoming to new users and by posting about yourself and what you do (maybe adding a photo of yourself and state/country) helps a lot. You should upvote new users and also follow them since they are more likely to follow you back. It is hard to get users with an already large fan-base and following to follow you back.

Commenting on new users in the tag could better expose you to them and they could consider seeing you as their mentor if you are a whale.

Be yourself when introducing yourself since honesty is regarded highly on Steemit.

3. Quality is king - post at the right time

Quality posts not only help you get author rewards, they also help you build a fan-base. The phrase 'quality is king' is what Steemit is about. When you post good content, you get many upvotes and this translates to a higher reputation score (the number besides every one's username) - This is calculated by the number of upvotes or flags you accrued over your lifetime on Steemit. If lucky, you could land on the trending page and this will expose you to more users.

You should also post at the right time - this is when most users which are Americans and Europeans are awake and active on their account. There is nothing bad like a good post going unnoticed due to bad timing.

4. Whales come second

Whales like @chbartist  @vintageprint  @derangedvisions  @surfermarly @dstors  @kaliju  actually make a living on Steemit. They have invested huge amounts of SP and by following them and commenting on their posts, you can gain some followers. More below.

These are the users who upvote your post and it gets $0.05-$1! Wanting to get recognized by whales is a huge aspect for both minnows and dolphins (these two categories are users below the whales). If by any chance you are followed by a whale through posting in the #introduceyourself, do not spam in the hope that the whale will upvote any of your post. 2-3 posts does the trick; prefer quality over quantity.

A whale could flag down your post and this will really hurt your reputation score. At this point, you could wave goodbye to the coveted Trending page.

I want you to quickly stop and in a new tab scroll over the trending, new, hot and promoted section.

Tip: In the trending page, most users are whales having large amounts of Steem Power influence and reputation scores of above 60. Their posts are about 3 days old. In the hot section, these are posts that the ones that look promising to hit by their upvote count and value. Both whales and dolphins conquer. In the promoted page, users with a 40 reputation are more whereas in the New section, blogs roll in fast but you could see most are minnows with 11-38 reputation score meaning a high percentage of Steemers are minnows!

I do not mean minnows always have a low score, but most of them are starting out. Some whales have a reputation score of 25 but possess large amounts of Steem Power.

5. Join support groups and chats

Support groups such as The MinnowSupport group is a project that helps minnows to grow. You should not spam the chat section with links since they have a section that you post a link and it gets an upvote from their bot. Build a following with your newly found friends and unlock higher levels where you could privately chat with whales. They also have a Steemit account

Chats like steem.chat help you to talk with other Steemers and get to know them to a personal level. In this way, they could follow you.

6. Connect

I got some of my friends to Steemit and they followed me. I also followed them and kept track of their progress. This gave us a head-start when it came to followers and it could help you out also.

Through their followers, I also gained more followers because we tagged each other on our posts. MinnowSupport project also has a discord where you can connect with other Steemers and make friends on this website. After all, it claims to be a Social channel.

SteemBuddy can help you connect with like-minded people on Steemit. You can also start your own challenge with the SteemChallenges tool. This can motivate more followers to follow you in order to get rewards.

7. Reward your followers

Follow the people who follow you so that they not only get a follower but connect with you. I'm sure someone that follows you cannot unfollow you if you followed them back.

There is a Steemit tool called Followers Reward that rewards your followers with STEEM or SBD when they follow you. This could be a motivation to be followed by other Steemers.

You can also use SteemFollower tool to help you get more followers.

8. Invest in your posts

By this I mean to publicize your posts. This takes both time and possibly money.

First, make use of the Promoted button located below your post. This enters your post to the Promoted section and help your post reach many people. You can choose to promote your post or other poeple's post. You have an option of publicizing a post once, so choose the amount wisely. Please make my day by trying it with this post with even 0.5 SBD. 

Second, enter contests such as the meme challenge contest. Variety of contests such as the meme challenge, art, photography,writing, crypto contest, comment of the day  exist and this is very beneficial for exposing your hobby/masterpice to other people. You can find more contests on the contests tag.

Third, you could send an amount of Steem or SBD to voting bots that can boost you to the trending page. When users from the voting bots and the trending page like your content, they will follow you.

9. Be yourself - originality

Steemers will follow you, not your content. That sounds contradictory but its true. Put your photo on your profile and be good to commentors by replying early. You will notice all those that you replied to follow you now.

When posting content, do no try to emulate other Steemers in the trending section. This will get you nowhere because you will be posting content you are not familiar with.

10. Consistency. Consistency. Consistency.

The reason why you see all the posts in the trending section to be less than 4 days old is because posts lose value over a period of time unless search on a search engine like Google. Steemit also stops publicizing posts after 7 days since the payout occurs after 7 days of the posts time.

Make sure you post immediately after your resource credits are sufficient for posting. Steemit does that t limit spamming and it has proved helpful. You could also power up and this would immediately replenish your resource credits to keep on posting. 

If I would navigate to an account and see that the last post was an year ago, I would not follow it because the person was not consistent. Think about it.

You should know followers don't help you make money, they just see your post when you publish it.
