What is the difference between Subcutaneous(under the skin) and Visceral Fat (organ)?steemCreated with Sketch.

Last time I talked about the two different types of fat i.e white and brown.

Basically, we found out that white fat is good for insulation and cushioning but can pose problems, and that brown fat is far far less common but really good for generating heat when we exercise or get cold.

In this post we will be looking at how white fat can be either subcutaneous or visceral, and what that means for us.

Subcutaneous Fat

This is the type of fat that you will find directly under the skin.

It is the one that we use to measure our total body fat. Or, for those of you old enough to remember the advert, to ‘pinch an inch’!

Anyway, it is distributed all across the body, obviously to different degrees, and everyone has it - although annoyingly for some people they have far more of it than they would like. This is in part due to life style but is also determined to a large extent on individual genetics.

Luckily, even for people who are unfortunate enough to have been born with a genetic predisposition to having lots of fat cells, there are many different of ways it can be managed. These include several simple surgical procedures such as those that we do in Budapest as well as the usual lifestyle changes.

Visceral Fat

It might surprise some people but excess visceral fat is actually worse for people than subcutaneous fat.

Why?

Because visceral fat lurks much deeper than subcutaneous fat. It wraps itself around vital organs where it can cause serious health issues if not dealt with correctly. Especially around the tummy area!

You can look up the different health related conditions associated with visceral tummy fat, but don’t worry too much, because just as you can lose subcutaneous fat through exercise, diet and special procedures, you can also lose visceral fat from the tummy (or wherever else it might be lurking!).

The key thing is that you do something positive about, and preferable as soon as possible. If in doubt consult an expert.

This is the end of looking at different types of fats and how you can best tackle them. I hope you found it useful and as always feel free to contact me at Medi Tours Hungary if you have any related questions or concerns, or if you have any other dental or cosmetic surgery requirements that you would like to look into further.
