Pros:

• accompanying posts make it very easy to navigate the Steemit interface and understand the underlying technology
• the community is very active and friendly
• the team is just stellar (Cornell, Harvard and Columbia University)

Cons:

• needs a lot more marketing outside crypto space (I'm guessing they are already on it)

• I haven't hunted for this myself even though I knew about it
