Not being a MAC user I was surprised something like this didn't already exist, as the RAR format is widely used for file compression.
The Unarchiver is a free app for Apple Mac and can be configured to identify and open your RAR files with a single click.
It also supports, ZIP, ZPIX, 7z and of course RAR plus a heap of other older macOS native formats.
So its time to ditch the native macOS utilty and start using 'The Unarchiver' for all you decompression needs
