Ponix Systems, the Austrian company behind Herbert, is trying to change the way how food is produced by bringing food production to your home.
With there vertical farm hydroponic system you will be able to grow and harvest your own vegetables, herbs and many more.
Their free app for Android and iOS will guide you throughout your grow and will also allow you to adjust the light settings.
Herbert consists of three main parts:
- grow area: place for 15 plants at a time (3 rows á 5 pots)
- water system: holds up to 6 liter of water and contains a small 5 Watts water pump
- light system: 28 high quality LEDs to cover all the needs of your plant while only needing 60 Watts
For the cost of only €399 you will no longer need to buy leafy greens and herbs anymore and after knowing they were grown organically with love they will taste even better.

Since the light is using only 60 Watts it depends on the duration the light is on. Commercially leafy greens usually get light for about 18 hours, that would be roughly 1000 Watts per day. At rate here in Austria that would cost you about €0,20 a day which adds up to €6 or about $7 USD a month (since the water pump is a little 5 Watts pump and it only on a short time from time to time we do not need to account for that in our calculations.
Short answer: about 7 bucks a month 😂
Pros:
It allows you to grow your own edible plants in a healthier and more organic way.
Allows the whole family to relate to the growth of plants.
It allows you to grow in a really small space, you will hardly notice that this mini "stonemason" is present.
It has a very minimalist and practical design.
