Steemgigs: STEEM by the Masses and for the Masses

Good day to all of you friends. Today I will share with you this great new website that is build on top of the STEEM blockchain. I will be sharing my blog today to other social media outlets so please bear with me if you find some of the information here trivial. Everyone already knows about STEEM as a STEEMIAN but outside this community or ecosystem people hardly know about it.

Before delving in STEEMGIGS let me first explain in my own words what STEEM is and what is STEEMIT. STEEM is a cryptocurrency much like Bitcoin. You can say that it is digital money that uses Blockchain , which is just a fancy name of a digital ledger that records transactions, making sure that all of STEEM is accounted for. that no STEEM is arbitrarily created, doubled, copied, transferred and etc. It keeps everything BALANCED no more no less. You can liken it to the function of central banks that controls the supply of money of governments. In short STEEM is digital money that has its own mechanism to regulate it, much like Bitcoin.

Now some of you may ask what gives it VALUE. I myself have a difficult understanding how cryptocurrencies have their value and I can write a whole article about this but to keep things simple let us just say “Users” or consumers of this Cryptocurrency gives its value and the specific value for STEEM is governed by the basic economic law of Supply and Demand.

Now that we have established STEEM as digital money, that has its own monitoring mechanism- STEEM BLOCKCHAIN and it has value determined by its users or consumers, we can now discuss where STEEM is used.

It is primarily been used in STEEMIT and other applications or condensers. To most Steemians Steemit is a blogging site where you can create blogs and get rewarded or compensated for your work when someone "upvotes." As an Author you will get 75% of all of the reward. Okay now what happens to the other 25%? It is rewarded to the upvoters or what we call Curators. I will not be discussing the three currency system in STEEMIT to avoid further complication of an already complicated subject. I will post probably post another article about it some other time.

Thus STEEMIT is the first application that uses the STEEM cryptocurrency. A blogging site that Authors and Curators are rewarded with STEEM that can be converted to other cryptocurrency via the different cryptocurrency exchanges which more often than not has facilities to convert to fiat money (Us dollars, Japanese Yen, Korean won etc.).

To summarize let me reiterate what we have discussed so far STEEM = Digital Money; STEEMIT = First STEEM application.

Now where is STEEMGIGS in all of this? As I have mentioned above STEEMIT is a blogging site and the FIRST STEEM application but as STEEM continues to evolve some pioneering Steemians who are content creators, developers and investors have created several types of application that uses the STEEM Blockchain. These are what we call condensers. Condensers are different frontends that is used to interact with the STEEM blockchain. Just think of condensers as browsers similar to Chrome, internet Explorer or Safari and STEEM blockchain is the internet. You use the browsers to browse the content of the internet. Similarly that is how condensers work. You use it to browse the content of the Steem Blockchain.

Here are some examples of the more famous STEEM applications There is the STEEM powered CHAINBB that presents STEEM Blockchain contents in a Forum like manner. STEEPSHOT is mostly pictures and can be compared to Instagram. ZAPPL is the equivalent of twitter. D.TUBE is the equivalent of youtube. Utopian.io which is a monetize version of github and now there is STEEMGIGS which you can compare to a STEEM POWERED FIVERR, an online marketplace for freelance services. Of all of the condensers this is the one that I am really excited about and there are several reasons why.

But before I discuss my reasons let me give you a more detailed explanation on what STEEMGIGS is all about. It is an online website that is developed to cater to freelance services similar to Fiverr. It serves as a hub for freelancers to post service they can offer, set terms, requirements and prices. Clients who are looking for freelancers can search the STEEMGIGS search engine to look for specific services they want provided. Moreover freelance clients can also post custom requirements that that they were not able to find the STEEMGIGS search engine. All post are also posted in STEEMIT blog site and can be rewarded by Steemit readers if they want to. All prices are set in STEEM currencies. As of the time of these writing there are no really strict guidelines on what you can post in STEEMGIGS as the slogan goes that “EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING TO OFFER”

I will now discuss what are the reasons why I am very excited about steemgigs. First, STEEMGIGS is one of the projects Mr. Terry Ajayi or better known as @surpassinggoogle. Most Steemians would have heard his name by now. But for the benefit of those who does not know him he is one of the most influential Steemian around. Knowing his generous and kind heart and impeccable character I know that his initiative will benefit the the whole Steem ecosystem and specially those who needed it most the minnows, like me, Steemians that has less influence power (STEEM POWER). He created a strong fanbase in STEEMIT mostly from third world countries like the Philippines, Nigeria and etc who has a strong, educated and talented work force who are willing to do more work for less pay owing to the fact that earning opportunities in these countries are very limited. A perfect fit for STEEMGIGS.

Second, STEEMGIGS was intended to be developed by the community and is open-source. That means steemgigers and Steemians has a say on the development of STEEMGIGS. Using the Utopian.io condenser Steemians, steemgigers and utopian users will be able to contribute, suggest, report bugs and makes improvements in the platform and be rewarded via the utopian.io reward system. Now some of you might be thinking that contributions in utopian is exclusive only for programmers, graphics artist and developers. I will let you in on a little secret: most of my earnings came from my contributions there doing tutorials and I am not a developer, a programmer nor graphics artist. You don’t need to be one to do suggestions, report bugs, translate manuals or do other task there. There are only some protocols that needed to be followed and there are many moderators that are willing to help.

Lastly STEEMGIGS enables multiple streams of income. This is inferred already in my first two reasons: income from actual work from the service you intend to provide, income clients seeking work done , possible income from the post from your Steemit post that the website automatically generates from your STEEMGIGS post and the income from utopian post for your contribution to STEEMGIGS since it is open-source.

As you can see there is so much potential on what you can do with STEEMGIGS. In fact I have four projects that I am currently involve in that I will soon post in steemgigs. @steemitpowerupph, @proxyaccount, @steemitgotalent, a financial service, a lottery contest and a geo-specific outreach program that will utilize STEEMGIGS as a platform to perform outreach programs. I will release more details on this in my future blogs but what want to share with you now is the geo-specific outreach program. For a clearer explanation about this let as make an hypothetical outreach program (an example that @surpassinggoogle himself suggested).

Let us start with a fictional situation where there was a very strong typhoon that destroyed a small village in Mindanao. Crops and livelihood were destroyed and people there were left nothing to eat. Now I am in Manila 1,000 kilometers away and I would like to help them. I have no time to go there but I have some SBD/STEEM to spare to help those people who are currently suffering. Now what can I do? I don’t know anyone there and I don’t know how to send my help to those who really needs it. Using the Steemgig interface I can post a task asking Steemians who can volunteer or hire to distribute 1 one sack to 10 families that were affected by the calamity. Now maybe some of you might think that you might get scammed as there is now way of verifying that the distribution actually took place. You can also hire someone to double check and you can always post your feedback in the steemgigs interface which will also be posted in Steemit. That would provide some sort of collateral as their Steemit reputation will be at stake.
