Before Steemfest (3): There is nothing to worry about, but...
Hi Steemfest3 travelers! Here is @the-veggie-sloth. Here are some tips to help you survive the Steemfest3 and return home safely. Traveling is a great thing, isn't it! You see new faces, new places and every moment is part of new adventures. However, among the new experiences and fun, it is always worth remembering about safety.
Sometimes a moment of lack of attention can destroy the whole trip. Lost wallet and documents, fighting with locals or stolen luggage is a big problem, especially when it is far from home or the embassy of our country.
You will come to Krakow in Poland. It is a very old city. It used to be the capital of the Kingdom, now it is, of course, Warsaw, which I also recommend to visit by the way. Krakow is also the most touristic city in Poland. Every year thousands of people from all over the world come here to visit Wawel, Market Square, monuments and entertain themselves. There are many cafes, theatres, museums, and pubs - everyone will find something for themselves. This city lives until late at night, and night-time tourists often meet at cult zapiekankas.
Temperature
For some of you, Poland is a cold country, for others who come to us from Norway, Russia or Canada, the temperature of November in Krakow will not be anything surprising. The weather forecast is not bad for these days - it should be nice and sunny, without rain, temperature about 13 degrees Celsius (51°F), but at night the temperature will drop to 2-3 degrees (36°F), so warm jackets will be necessary. Headgear is also useful for you! If it's cold, drop into a pub for mulled honey - our specialty. It warms up like a devil!
Walking in the streets
Yeah, we all know about it.... but if you don't want to have close third-degree encounters with the Polish police, go along the lanes and when the light is green. Simple but important. Boys in blue uniforms often like to catch relaxed tourists who do not follow the traffic rules. Usually, the police don't speak English, so arguing with them doesn't make sense.
Assaults and pickpockets
Krakow is one of the least safe cities in Poland. Of course, it is very far from the most dangerous cities in the world, but you have to be careful. The whole city center is monitored by cameras, which has significantly improved the safety of tourists and residents.
In the city, there are pocket thefts, street fights, also among drunken tourists, who because of low alcohol prices, treat Krakow as a big place for a party. Nothing bad about it, of course, but however, this should be taken into account. If you see that something dangerous is happening, it is best to leave as far as possible.
I hope that such information will not be useful to you, but "Help!" is in Polish "Na pomos!".
Keep smiling, but...
At first glance Poles are gloomy. We don't smile often to strangers. Unfortunately, we are not as open as the Spaniards or Italians, we are not as cool as the Americans. Of course, as soon as we get to know each other, we become open, hospitable, cheerful and friendly. You will surely meet a few people from Poland on Steemfest3 and you will see that they are nice and joyful people.
Independence Day
The Steemfest3 will take place exactly on the day of the celebration of the centenary of Polish independence. This is an important holiday for us, so it is expected that in some places the national celebrations of this anniversary may take place. This will be a unique opportunity for you to see how we celebrate such occasions.
For example, on the day of the end of the Steemfest3 in the market square in Krakow, it is planned to gather 8 thousand people and sing patriotic songs. Due to military marches or other gatherings, some streets may be closed. Take this into account when planning your trip to the airport or train station.
Leave football scarves at home
If you are a football fan and you like your team better, do not expose your feelings on the streets of Krakow. There are quite a lot of hooligans in this city and it's better not to start talking to them about football. Of course, I am not going to frighten you... I only warn you ;)
Krakow is a great place and certainly, some of you will want to come back here! No worries. It will be a good and safe time! Keep only common sense, eyes around your head and don't drink too much alcohol! Listening to interesting lectures during Steemfest3 when you have a hangover is nothing enjoyable.
If you have an additional question about safety in Krakow and Poland, please let me know in the commentary. I wish you joyful packing, Steemfest3 is just around the corner!

@nomadicsoul, @leotrap, @surfermarly, @anomadsoul, @travelgirl, @abh12345, @soyrosa and @elsiekjay You should definitely read this before you travel to Steem Fest!
"Keep smiling, but..." - and take this point seriously unless you like to meet new people during a fight. ;)
Hehehe thanks sifi!
You're welcome Leo ;)
Thanks for notifying me @see-it-feel-it! :D
You're welcome @soyrosa. Some time ago I read your free writing post about your "fears" of traveling to Cracow. So I immediately thought about you after reading this article. :)
<3
Hehhehe, Tag me in SF4 Honey! #NotGoingSadly
Oh, I was sure you were going to SF3. :( But if you go to SF4, we will probably meet! ;)
We Should totally make it a Goal!! :)))
Thanks for the write-up! It's good to hear some tips from the locals. When I travel in Europe I never think about safety since it all feels like 'home' anyway, but there's certainly some specifics in every country... It's good to know the police 'loves' tourists ;-)
I didn't know about the national holidays taking place either! That's useful as well :D We can make either good use of it or try to avoid it ;-)
Sorry if I missed this info from other posts maybe, but will you be at SteemFest yourself as well?! :D Cheers!
I hope that the police will take care of the safety of the demonstration and not exhaustion of tourists :) This year's day of independence is special, so it's great that you'll see Krakow at that time. Probably the city will be decorated with flags and so on :)
This time, unfortunately, I will not be able to come to Krakow. However, I will keep an eye on it all the time.
Ah, one more tip: use payment cards (they are common in use and you will not have to exchange cash), use UBER or Taxify - taxi drivers will not be able to cheat, and jakdojade.pl app to check bus and tram connections. Wish you a wonderful stay in Krakow!

I'm from Kraków (but now I'm on my gap year in Costa-Rica), so if U have any questions fell free to ask :)
Great advices @the-veggie-sloth and by the way the Independence day one is the best. I think we will enjoy that day. See you in Krakow.
Thank you to the Highest that Steemfest does not take place in Warsaw. Last year the streets of the capital that day looked like this:
And how try to get to the airport in this crowd? :)
Woow... Impossible, seems like a riot hahaha. Do you say that in Krakow everything will be not so crowded?
Definitely not! The famous March of Independence every year takes the place on the streets of Warsaw! In Kraków it's gonna be calm, I hope ;)
Great idea to share some weather and temperature thoughts. I believe for many steemfest guests it might be not that obvious! Good job mr Sloth ;)
Thanks for the tips! Especially this one :)
Nice, isn't it? :) It's sweet, has a wonderful smell and 16% of pure alcohol!

Great! It's really nice because more people can find out about safety and Kraków! Thanks!
Hey, @the-veggie-sloth.
Now, I wish I was going! Okay, almost. :) Cooler temperatures without rain would be nice, and getting to see older architecture and other sites would be cool. Not so sure about fighting or pickpocketing, but I tend to be able to steer away from such things.
It just so happens that a part of my ancestry is from Poland, so it's on the list of places to travel to someday. Probably the same year my wife gets to see the European castles I never knew she was interested in. :)
you didn't necessarily say if you're going to Steemfest yourself (though I imagine you are). Have a good time if you do. Is there something in particular you're looking forward to there?
And, Happy Independence Day. 100 years. That should be quite the party with 8,000 people in the streets.
Unfortunately, I can't go to Kraków this time and meet you guys. I made wrong planing and have to stay in my place.
European castles are beatiful, I was visting some of them in France, England and Germany. Some of them look like from the Disney movies :) I would like to go to Scotland. It's great country :)
