When does life begin?
This question will appear odd to some people especially if you are looking at the question literally. You are likely going to say 'of course once an infant is born'. You wont be wrong if you took the question that way.
But a closer look will point to the fact that breathing begins when a child is born and not life itself. Life, perhaps, begins when one is aware of things and realities around you. It is possible to even argue further that awareness has nothing to do with one being alive or living especially when other things are considered.
Some people are of the opinion that life begin when you can buy good things of life. When you can buy cars, build houses, marry and afford your own bills easily without stress.
For some, life is tied to the moment you graduated from the higher institution, get a job and started living on your own.
These suggest to us that the starting point of life differs and we have different views on when life is being lived or not.
In Africa, we have this view that a fool at forty is a fool forever. This suggests that whatever foolishness a man possesses and shows would be pardoned provided he is below the age of forty but once he hits that stage or crosses it, and still act foolishly, he is a fool forever.
It is possible to ask 'at what point or stage does forever stops'? Whether this is true for all or some is even a question that will always beg for an answer. But let's take it on its face value, the conclusion we are likely going to reach is that life begins after that age (40).
There is another view in Africa that life begins at 50. This also suggests that a man's life begins at age 50. If this second view is taking seriously, it negate the fool at forty is a fool forever because life has not began by 40.
If we look at the two positions, it points to one direction that life begins when one is much older than 40 years old. If this is true, then what can we call the 'one'we have been living before 40/50? Can we call it 'less life or non-life'?
Truly, life begin at certain stage in life but that particular time might be the problem but i have been able to share some views on when it does begin. My worry lies on what to call 'what we've been doing before 40'. What do you think? When does life begin for you?
